Sculpting with Fire
3 Jul 2008 at 11:28am

fire-sculpted earrings

One of my favorite techniques, which I hadn’t played with in a while, is using a torch to sculpt fine silver into interesting, organic sculptures. I used the torch a little bit making my Random Knot earrings recently, and it gave me the idea to make some fire-sculpted earrings.

The result is this pair. The earwires are argentium silver, and the dangles are fine silver. I started with wire, loosely sculpted it by hand, then used the torch to melt and drip the metal. I love this effect - it is unpredictable, so it’s always kind of a rush to try making something, knowing that if I keep the torch on it for a second too long I could end up with a silver puddle instead of an interesting sculpted piece.

I met Jocelyn on Etsy, where she is a member of Etsy Greetings. I love the paper she uses - such fun patterns and colors, who wouldn’t feel special receiving one of her cards in the mail?

The Price of a Diamond Engagement Ring Shouldn't Matter
2 Jul 2008 at 5:09am
diamond engagement ringWhen a man pops the question, how important is the price of the diamond engagement ring he picks out? If you?re preparing to propose and you are anxious that your girlfriend will not accept you if the ring is cheap, you need to ask yourself if this is really the woman you want to spend the rest of your life with. Only superficial and materialistic women are worried about the size, cut and clarity of the rock in the diamond engagement ring. If the woman you wish to marry cares more about you than the cost of the diamond engagement ring, she?ll accept the proposal even if the stone is clearly a fake.
I personally cannot abide the type of woman who expects the most expensive diamond engagement ring. If she thinks the size of the rock is in any way significant, she?s clearly deluded. The diamond engagement ring you choose might be a reflection of your bank balance, but nice women don?t marry for money, they are more than capable of making their own.
If you pop the question, your girlfriend should be glad that somebody cares enough to want to spend the rest of his life with her. She shouldn?t even think about the price of her diamond engagement ring.

Inspiration at the bookstore
29 Jun 2008 at 10:07am

One of my favorite things to do to get inspired is spend some time browsing at a good bookstore. There is a pretty good one near my house that has a huge selection of magazines, including a pretty good craft section and a pretty good art/photography section. There is also an aisle full of craft books, so there’s always something new to look at.

I always leave itching to make something. With so many great books and magazines to look at, it’s almost impossible not to feel inspired. Yesterday I flipped through a fun book on making jewelry with found objects (of course I can’t remember the title now), a book of hideously ugly crochet patterns, and a couple books of knitting patterns. Most of the time I don’t want to make the majority of the projects in craft books and magazines, but I have a great time looking at them. The ugly crochet book was amusing, and showed me a lot of things to try to avoid doing! The jewelry book gave me some ideas on how to incorporate certain kinds of elements into a piece, and definitely made a case for the messy-on-purpose look, which the author did really well.

Now the only problem is finding time to try all these things…at the moment, I have so many projects in progress that maybe what I need is less inspiration rather than more. It’s definitely possible to get overstimulated with so many ideas. I have beads to make into something great for the Jewelry on Etsy team summer beading challenge, I have a package of new jewelry that needs to get labeled and boxed and sent off to Exhibit One (including those two rings I was trying to decide what to do with), I’ve been swatching with lace weight and even finer yarns and have some necklace ideas, I have photos to edit of earrings I finished yesterday, and I’ve recently gotten into using my graphics program (PSP) to design banners and stickers and things (the new banner on this blog was a first attempt, which I like but want to refine a bit more). And now I want to do some found object assemblage jewelry, since I have the DVD guts lying around and I got inspired by that book yesterday….

Jewelry 101 - Soldering
27 Jun 2008 at 11:16am

I could write an article on soldering, but there’s already a good one with basic info over at H. Palleiko Designs blog.

One thing I would add to her directions is this: wear a ventilator mask and work in a well ventilated area. Fumes from flux, solder, and your torch are things you probably don’t want to be breathing. You can find ventilators at hardware stores. At my local hardware store they are right near the torches - very convenient!

Crocheted Mesh Scarf
26 Jun 2008 at 1:33pm

crocheted mesh scarf

This scarf is made with a very easy lacy mesh pattern that could be adapted to make a choker, cuff bracelet, or headband. It’s a very simple pattern: chain 4, then slip stitch into the next chain 4 space.

To start, chain a multiple of 4 (plus 1 extra) the width that you want your scarf to be. Then slip stitch into the fifth chain from the hook, chain four, and slip stitch into the fourth chain from the slip stitch. Do this across your row, then start the pattern of chain 4, slip stitch into the next chain 4 space. I love simple patterns, and this one makes an open mesh so it’s great for summery projects.

My scarf is about 20 chain stitches wide, or 5 repeats of chain 4, slip stitch. I used exactly one skein of Vickie Howell Collection “Love” from Southwest Trading Company. It’s a bamboo/silk blend that I love, so soft, and has a nice sheen. If it was a little thinner, I’d make jewelry out of it, because the slight shine would look great with beads - but its thickness is sport or DK, which would make kind of bulky-looking jewelry. It would be great for crocheted flowers though.

the guts of a dvd player
25 Jun 2008 at 5:42pm

Have you ever wondered what the inside of a dvd player looks like? Honestly, I never had. But then my (cheap) dvd player broke, with a netflix movie stuck inside it. So…I took it apart.

One of the screws was on so tight that I ended up breaking the plastic exterior, and then I figured it was beyond repair, so I took apart all the stuff inside. Turns out dvd players have a lot of fancy circuit boards inside that look like the insides of a computer hard drive. (Bud dvd players are easier to take apart. If you’ve never tried taking apart a hard drive, you won’t fully appreciate just how difficult they are to dismantle - tiny, supertight screws, and thick metal casings - they are definitely built to last.)

I once got a bunch of free hard drives that someone was going to throw away because I thought pieces of the circuit boards would look really cool embedded in resin. But I quickly got frustrated with how difficult it was to get them apart and gave up on that idea.

Fast forward to last week, when my cheap dvd player broke. I finally have some circuit boards to make into jewelry! This one is going to look so cool once I get it cut into little pieces and covered in resin….

Diamond Engagement Ring Price Increasing after Takeover Talks
25 Jun 2008 at 7:09am
diamond engagement ring, diamond stud earringWhere is the cheapest supply of diamonds? West Africa as we all learned when awareness was drawn to the blood diamond epidemic in places like Sierra Leone. No matter what your opinion on blood diamonds is, the majority of stones you see in a diamond engagement ring or diamond wedding band from major retailers like De Beers is coming from the West African Diamond Plc., which has been talking about a looming takeover.

West African Diamond Plc. gets the majority of their stones from Sierra Leone and Guinea but will soon the hand the reigns over to someone else within the next two months. These talks have driven diamond prices up.
You will see higher prices when going to check out a diamond stud earring at De Beers. Large diamond and gem stores are looking elsewhere for product because the increase, which has to do with a Sierra Leone dig project that has not been going well and the always present security threats.

Staying up to date with this situation could save you money when looking for some new diamond accessories.

New Earrings - two perspectives
23 Jun 2008 at 2:23pm

I’m having fun with photography lately. I made some new earrings, and I think at this point I’ve spent more time photographing them than I did making them! That’s probably because I’m better at making jewelry than I am at photography, but still - I’ve taken a lot of shots of these, with various props, different angles and lighting, etc. These two are my favorites.

I’m calling the earrings “Random Knots” because the fine silver dangles were made by knotting wire in a very freeform way. They dangle from argentium silver circles that I fused and hammered. The circles and the earwires feel very precise and structured to me, while the knots are much more random. I like the contrast between those two elements - I think I’ll be playing with that contrast some more in my metalwork.

Product review - Addi lace knitting needles
22 Jun 2008 at 12:36pm

I’ve been knitting a lot lately, trying to get good enough at it to make some really cool knitted jewelry designs. That means using lots of very thin yarn - some is so thin I’m inclined to call it thread rather than yarn. Thin yarn can be tricky, especially with the bamboo needles I use with thicker yarns. I came across 24″ Addi Lace Circular Knitting Needles at my local yarn store and I LOVE them. I want them in a bunch of sizes, because it makes knitting with tiny, thin yarn a lot easier. I think it’s because the needles are pointier than regular needles, which makes it easier to get in there.

New Rings

I made a couple of argentium silver rings recently. I can’t decide if I should send them to Exhibit One in Oklahoma, take them to ProArts in Oakland, CA, or list them for sale in my etsy shop…

How to inspect diamond stud earrings

Are you looking for the ideal set of diamond stud earrings?

Receiving a pair of diamond stud earrings can be exhilarating. They have been long sought after due to their class, elegance, and beauty. Diamond stud earrings have been known to be a number one staple for a woman's wardrobe. Despite the cost, diamond stud earrings are an investment because a woman can practically wear them at any time and for practically any occasion- from a casual day out to a black tie dinner party. Here are some important aspects to consider before purchasing your diamond stud earrings. Many of these pointers can also apply to choosing other pieces of diamond jewelry, such as a diamond engagement ring or a diamond wedding band.

Cut: The cut determines the diamond's overall brilliance. Essentially, the width and depth decide how light travels through a diamond. The way the light exits will reveal its brilliance

Color: The less color the diamond has, the more colorful the fire. Fire is the way the diamond divides light into a spectrum of colors. The way it reflects this light as colorful flashes is essentially called fire.

Clarity: The more clear the diamond, the higher the price. Scratches, trace materials, and other characteristics can detract from the purity of the diamond.

Carat: Carat is the weight of the diamond. The higher the carat, the more expensive the diamond.

Another specific aspect to watch for in diamond stud earrings is the symmetry between the two diamonds. Symmetry has been a major factor in all beautiful things in nature. Diamonds are certainly not an exclusion to the rule.

A Diamond Engagement Ring Is Simply Gorgeous
13 Jun 2008 at 2:53am
diamond engagement ring, diamond wedding band    Recently a girlfriend of mine got engaged and I was stunned at the diamond engagement ring that her now fiance had purchased. It is absolutely huge with several large diamonds all arranged in an original pattern. They did go together to look at diamond engagement ring styles but in the end he was the one that chose what he thought she liked the best. He was right. Apparently the diamond wedding band that matches the selected diamond engagement ring is as spectacular as its counter part. It will be a beautiful set when she gets to wear them both together, and that date coming up quite quickly. Then to top it all off this romantic fiance picked a diamond stud earring pair that shine and display brilliance. They closely match the original diamond engagement ring and the diamond wedding band that have been decided on. So on her wedding day this bride will be beautiful as she is adorned with shimmering, sparkling perfect stones that have been chosen specifically for this special time in her life.

Give the Gift of Diamond Stud Earrings
7 Jun 2008 at 5:02am
                                            diamond stud earring
Diamond stud earrings are all about understated elegance and class. When a woman wears diamond stud earrings, it tells the people she meets that she has style. Diamond stud earrings are subtle and dainty. They add the finishing touches to any outfit. They are suitable for all occasions. I think every woman deserves to own at least one pair of diamond stud earrings.
Because we are experiencing a period of economic uncertainty, most women would not go out and purchase a pair of diamond stud earrings for themselves at this point in time. That?s what makes it a great time for husbands and boyfriends in the United States to choose diamond stud earrings as a birthday gift for their wives or girlfriends. People are struggling to put gas in their cars and scrimping to make mortgage payments. A gift of diamond stud earrings is the perfect way of providing a little luxury at a time when most people are women reluctant to splurge on extras. If you want to make your wife or girlfriend feel special on her birthday, a pair of diamond stud earrings would definitely work.

Choosing Diamond Stud Earrings
2 Jun 2008 at 1:03am

How can you choose diamond stud earrings?

Just like any form of diamond jewelry, such as a diamond engagement ring or diamond wedding band, it's important to look for nearly colorless diamond stud earrings with no visible imperfections. Unlike jewelry that only requires a sole diamond, it's important that your diamonds are perfectly matched. Symmetry is a huge factor for attractiveness and diamonds are no exception to the rule.

Be sure to follow the four C's:

  • Cut: The cut of the diamond basically determines its overall brilliance. A cut basically determines the diamond's brilliance. What determines brilliance? Basically, the width and depth can greatly effect how the light travels within the diamond and how exits. For diamond stud earrings, it's highly important that the diamond's cut is symmetrical.
  • Color: How can you tell the quality of color grade? The less color in the diamond, the more colorful the fire Diamonds basically divide light into a spectrum of colors and reflect this light into colorful flashes called fire. It's important to make sure that when choosing diamond stud earrings that the color matches.
  • Clarity: A diamond is clear when there are no inclusions, which are scratches, trace materials or other tiny characteristics that corrupt the purity of the diamond.
  • Carat: The carat is the weight of the diamond. It's important to find a carat that fits your budget.

Where should you buy your diamond engagement ring online?
25 May 2008 at 11:25pm

Diamonds are symbolic of style, class, and eternity.

The "eternity' part is exactly why diamonds are closely associated with marriage. This is why Western society has diamond wedding bands and diamond engagement rings. Diamond stud earrings have also been known as a long standing basic within a woman's wardrobe due to their elegance and longevity.

If you're searching for a diamond engagement ring, consider Blue Nile at BlueNile.com. This is an excellent place for the man who has no familiarity with diamond engagement rings. Blue Nile offers "Diamond Education", so that the purchaser knows exactly what they are receiving. "Diamond Education" includes understanding various aspects of the diamond, such as the diamond engagement ring's shape, cut, color, clarity, carat weight, and certification. With the average cost of a diamond engagement ring being approximately $4000+, it is highly important for the purchaser to be completely confident in the diamond engagement ring that they are purchasing (Source: MSNBC).

Blue Nile also has a solid reputation. It's the largest online retailer of certified diamonds and it's the Forbes Favorite Online Jeweler since 2000.

Don't be Without a Diamond Stud Earring
20 May 2008 at 12:15pm
diamond stud earring, diamond wedding bandI think every girl should have a pair of diamond stud earrings. Ever since I can remember, I always wanted diamond stud earrings to wear. I remember telling my aunt, every time I saw her wearing diamond stud earrings, that I loved her earrings. My mother didn't have a pair, so I couldn't borrow her diamond stud earrings; I doubt she would have let me. Anyway, it wasn't until I got married that I received my first pair of real diamond stud earrings. My husband scored big when he gave me my earrings. I love to wear my diamond stud earrings, they match my diamond wedding band. The diamond stud earring is great to wear with anything. You can wear diamond stud earrings with casual clothes or fancy clothes. I even wear my diamond stud earrings with my work out clothes, because I hardly ever take them off. Another reason I love my diamond stud earrings is that I was born in April and that means that diamonds are my birthstone. It is fun to wear your birthstone on your ears.

Questioning the Diamond Engagement Ring.
9 May 2008 at 6:59pm

diamond engagement ring, diamond stud earring

The average cost of a diamond engagement ring is $4146 (Source: CNNMoney).

Guess what? This information was from 2005. We're sure the cost of the diamond engagement ring has since risen. Perhaps, it's best to get married as soon as possible in order to avoid the expected cost of the diamond engagement ring.

Historically, the diamond engagement ring has been symbolic of an eternal relationship in Western cultures. And although the diamond engagement ring has the meaning of eternity, most of the marriages that it accompanies today do not. With an over 50% divorce rate in America, it's difficult to imagine that the diamond engagement ring holds the same meaning it once held before.

Therefore, are diamond engagement rings obsolete?

Some people may bitterly agree. I once heard of a good idea on how to correlate your relationship longevity with a diamond engagement ring.

How about purchasing a bigger and better engagement ring after each milestone in a marriage, while keeping the modest wedding band the same?

Or maybe, how about purchasing a piece of jewelry, such as diamond stud earrings for each milestone.

If the incentive is longevity, consider providing a symbolic reward for accomplishing it.

Diamond Wedding Band: Two Things to Consider
2 May 2008 at 12:11am
A diamond wedding band is an outward symbol of the love shared between two people. Of course, married couples do not have to have a diamond band. In fact, some people do not like diamonds. Instead, they prefer colorful stones such as sapphire, emeralds, and so forth. However, if you do choose a diamond wedding band, you?re probably interested in how to care for the stone.

1. Clean the Stone Once a Week: Over time, a diamond wedding band can lose its luster or shine, especially if you wear the ring on an everyday basis. Once or twice a week, remove the ring and soak the diamond in mild soapy water. This will release dirt, grime, and body oils. Next, use a small toothbrush and gently scrub the diamond. Rinse the diamond, and allow the ring to air dry.

2. Insure the Wedding Band: If you plan to keep your diamond wedding band for years to come, considering buying insurance for the jewelry. You may be able to add a rider to your homeowner?s or renter?s insurance policy.

The diamond engagement ring in Sedona
19 Apr 2008 at 12:33pm
Every now and then, my girlfriend and I will head up to Sedona for a mini-vacation. It's nice because it doesn't cost very much, yet the scenery is really outdoorsy and great for a getaway from the stress and hussle bussle of city life.

Well, one day when we went to Sedona we found a really neat place to visit right on the outskirts. It's called Tlaquepaque and it is a little square village immitation based off of Aztec/Spanish designs with many shops and such inside. It is a real treat for any vacationer and the shops are truly amazing. It is located right at the intersection of the 93 and 89, so it's right outside of Sedona to the south.

Either way. In this little village we found a cool shop for jewelry. It had everything from the diamond engagement ring to earrings and bracelets and more. My girlfriend saw a diamond engagement ring that was in the theme of art nuveau, and it was really cool, but a little over $2000 - to which I thought to myself, "You know, why get a diamond engagement ring when I could just get a used car instead?"

And so I decided against the diamond engagement ring and decided to invest the money instead - that is, when I will have an extra $2000 lying around.

Are You Sure Where Your Diamond Engagement Ring Came From?
19 Apr 2008 at 4:37am
diamond wedding band, diamond engagement ring
Despite all of the changes that are sweeping through the world in the early years of the 21st Century, some things remain traditional, and even expected, like a man buying his sweetheart a diamond engagement ring or a diamond wedding band. But because of all of the political turmoil and violence plaguing the diamond-producing regions of Africa, it is imperative for all couples to thoroughly check out the source of the stones for both the diamond engagement ring and the diamond wedding band they're planning to buy to seal their upcoming nuptials. Now I don't know about you, but I certainly wouldn't feel right having my fiance or wife wear stones that had someone's blood on them. Because that's what conflict diamonds are: diamonds that have been washed in the blood of the innocent, dug from the ground by forced labor in regions where innocent women and children are routinely tortured, mutilated and slaughtered by ruthless warlords. So, consumers, be sure where that diamond wedding band came from! Don't make your loved one walk around with blood on her hands!

Three Ways to Find an Inexpensive Diamond Wedding Band
13 Apr 2008 at 12:42am
Weddings are expensive, and unfortunately, many soon-to-be couples don?t have a large budget. While you can?t escape the cost of having a large reception and nice honeymoon, you can spend less on other wedding-related expenses. If you?re looking for a low cost diamond wedding band, consider these retailers.

1. Pawn Shop: Some people aren?t thrilled at the idea of buying a diamond wedding band from a pawn shop. However, you can find great deals at second hand stores. There are several reasons why a person sells a diamond wedding band. They might have upgraded to a better diamond, or the previous owner might have broken off their relationship and needed quick cash. Whatever the reason, pawn shops offer a wide selection, and the jewelry is usually in great condition.

2. The Internet: Several reputable jewelry retailers operate online. Conduct an online search for a jeweler, and then search online for complaints or rip-off reports. Great places to buy a discounted diamond wedding band include Ice.com and Overstock.com.

3. Local Classifieds: You?ll be surprised at the number of great deals located in the classified ads. Browse your local section and buy anything from diamond jewelry to furniture.

Pearl Jewelry: Fall in Love
9 Apr 2008 at 7:06am

Pearl Jewelry
Pearl Jewelry is timeless, enchanting and elegant and it’s every woman’s desire to own it. Pearl Jewelry makes an excellent birthday gift, and is a memorable thing for anniversary gifts and graduation gifts. Pearl jewelry gifts are welcome in any season of the year. In fact, they are favorites of women of all age groups. Pearls have lot of varieties; you can choose the best pearl for yourself.

Freshwater Pearls

Freshwater Pearls
Freshwater pearl farming is done mainly in China, Japan and the US. They are farmed in rivers, lakes, and other freshwater sources. These pearls differ from saltwater pearls in one way that freshwater pearls are almost entirely made up of nacre - the substance that gives pearls their luster and longevity. Freshwater pearls have a special attraction, since they come in a wide range of colors. A very small quantity of metal is added to the water on a pearl farm, resulting in different colored freshwater pearls. Many of these colors cannot be found in saltwater pearls. Freshwater pearls can be found in almost any shape imaginable including round, drop, rice, button, oval, semi-round, and circle or ringed, baroque or semi-baroque.

Tahitian Pearls

Tahitian Pearls
Tahitian Pearls are also known as black pearls because they are cultivated in the black-tipped oyster. They are highly coveted around the world for their superior quality, large size, colors, mirror-like shine, and the rainbow play of light. Tahitian Pearls are the outcome of a precise combination of environmental and geological factors found nowhere else in the globe. Tahiti Pearls are collected from black-lipped pearl oysters living in Tahiti’s perfect waters; the precise skill of craftsmen plays an important role in care and harvest of the pearls.

Akoya Pearls
Akoya Pearls
Akoya Pearls come from Japan, where they are cultured. Akoya looks very similar to the Freshwater pearl. When you compare both of them, the difference is clear. Akoya pearls are on average larger, smoother, rounder, and more lustrous than freshwater pearls. The luster of an Akoya pearl necklace and pearl earrings makes them the jewelry of choice for many brides-to-be. If you’re looking for a stunning gift, choose a gift of Akoya cultured pearl jewelry.

Right Way to choose Pearl Jewelry

In the glittering world of jewelry, pearls are gaining prominence in comparison to other types of jewelry. Before purchasing pearl necklace or earrings, it is very important to determine difference between fine quality pearls and average pearls. Quality of pearls depends upon factors such as luster, thickness & quality of nacre, surface quality, color, shape and size. If you are well aware of these factors, you can easily purchase pearl rings, pearl necklace, pearl pendants, pearl earrings, pearl stud earrings or pearl brooches for your loved ones at affordable prices.

A Diamond Engagement Ring You Can Afford
7 Apr 2008 at 12:58am
Are you ready to propose to your girlfriend? If so, you're likely in the market for a diamond engagement ring. Engagement and wedding bands are an outward symbol of the love shared between two people. And while diamonds aren't required, most people prefer a diamond engagement ring and wedding band.

Since diamond jewelry is expensive, many persons look for cheaper alternatives. I don't suggest anyone buy a moissanite or cubic zirconium ring. Yet, there are ways to find inexpensive diamond engagement rings.

Even if you don't plan to propose within the next few months or weeks, it might help to begin your search for diamond now. My husband proposed in November 2000. However, he purchased the ring several months earlier. A local jewelry retailer had a going-out-of-business sale, in which he was able to buy my ring at a 30% discount. Likewise, I bought his wedding band on sale, and I saved nearly $300.

Another way to save money on a diamond engagement ring is to buy from an online retailer. Retailers such as Ice.com offer amazing deals on diamond rings, earrings, bracelets, watches, and much more. The savings are incredible, and you get more for your money. With low prices, you can afford to buy a bigger diamond - her dream diamond.

Diamond Settings
31 Mar 2008 at 9:28am

Anyone notice the price of gold?  Wow, I bet it cost's more to mount a diamond, than the stone to be mounted.
Seems to me that back in the '80's there was a spike in the price of gold, and a number of people gathered their old and broken pieces, or pieces they would never wear, and took them to their jeweler to get weighed and get paid for the gold.

Most times they were surprised at the amount they were to be paid.

I've noticed also that many jewelers are having really great sales on their pieces.  I find that confusing, if the price of gold has esculated so much, how can they have sales.  Oh, I remember, they reduce the mark-up.

In any case if you are in the market for diamonds, now might be a good time.  I have seen advertisements for as much as 70% off.

If your engagement is awhile off, why not put the engagement ring on layaway for when you need it.  I guess you can still do that.

When do you get the diamond engagement ring?
26 Mar 2008 at 1:53pm
When do you get the diamond engagement ring? Questions that will never be answered.

One thing I have always wondered is when to get the diamond engagement ring. And not so much about the diamond engagement ring itself, but rather when do you come to the point in your relationship to get "engaged."

I never really got that term. I mean, what is the point? It's like another excuse to buy a ring. You're not married, you don't get tax benefits - you don't get anything! All it is, is just another title to go by. And when do you decide to do that? Is it after 3 years? 5 years? Is it when you're out of college? When you have full time jobs and financial security? Is it when you move in together? Or when she accidentally gets pregnant? When do you get the diamond engagement ring?

These are the questions that will never really be answered, but I always find them interesting to think about. The ring has always been such a long standing symbol of commitment, and commitment itself has changed in meaning over the last century very drastically - so you wonder what questions will be in the future.

I wonder if it will be,

"When do you get the zirconium engagement ring?"

Diamond wedding band says I love you forever!
26 Mar 2008 at 7:49am
Once diamonds were considered the gem stone of only royalty.  Thanks to De Beers, the largest diamond dealers in the world, there is a diamond for every one. There is something magical about a brilliant, sparkling diamond. Just owning one can make a woman feel special.  Diamonds are the genuine symbol of love.  That is why a diamond engagement ring is the gem of choice. A diamond wedding band is the seal of permanent love. If you were to ask Marilyn Monroe, she would say, "Diamonds are a girl's best friend."

It does not matter if a woman is in a formal gown or a good old pair of denim jeans, she is dressed up when she wears diamond stud earrings.  Actually diamonds and denim have become quite the fashion.  Nearly all my lady friends wear their diamond bracelets, diamond stud earrings, and diamond rings with their blue jeans. Of course, when the ladies are all together at lunch, they automatically check out each other's bling hardware. Diamonds and denim are the ultimate symbol of casual luxury and success.  There's much to learn about diamond wedding rings.  A good way to do so, is to check out diamonds-247.com.

Diamond Wedding Band: Stay within Budget
20 Mar 2008 at 12:48am
Have you browsed the diamond wedding band selection at your local jewelry store lately? If you have, you've likely noticed the beautiful selection and styles of diamonds. Persons who plan to marry in the near future are likely interested in diamond wedding bands. Although many wedding bands don't feature diamonds, some brides and grooms prefer a band with a little sparkle. There's nothing wrong with this. However, at what point do you draw the line? In other words, when is a diamond wedding band to expensive?

Some people argue that wedding bands are an outward symbol of love, and it's okay to go crazy and spend a lot of money. I have to disagree. I don't want to sound negative, but in some instances, diamonds outlast the marriage.

In the past six years, I've known five couples to marry, spend more than a reasonable amount of a diamond wedding band, and then divorce within the first two years of marriage. In all cases, the wedding band wasn't even paid off! It's a little ironic to pay for a divorce and a wedding band simultaneously.

I don't know whether the divorces could have been prevented. However, the headache of paying on a diamond wedding band for five years could have been avoided.

Diamonds
19 Mar 2008 at 10:53am

This past few weeks have reminded me of the real Diamonds in our lives.  It isn't jewelery, gems, gold, silver.
The real Diamonds are the people in our lives.

In one week I attended three funerals.  That was surely a first for me, and one I would not want any one to experience.  Left me feeling sadness, while not a constant feeling, it creeps up now and again.  The things you wish you had done or said, or shown up for.

The precious diamonds are the memories we share with one another.  Hopefully, the good times and the bad ones also.  We all know life is a hilly ride giving us loads of thrills.

Of course, I'll heal, as we all do.  If I were to suggest anything, it would be to hug those who are important to you, often.

A Diamond Engagement Ring Lost in the Sky!
14 Mar 2008 at 8:36am
diamond engagement ringHow would you feel if your boyfriend lost your diamond engagement ring? It does happen from time to time. However, most boyfriends do not lose their partner?s diamond engagement ring in a balloon like one British man did. A story at the Telegraph newspaper website describes how twenty-eight year old Lefkos Hajji wanted to make his engagement to his girlfriend memorable. He told a florist to put his girlfriend Leanne?s $6,000 diamond engagement ring inside a helium balloon but his romantic gesture went horribly wrong when a stray gust of wind blew the balloon out of his hand. He kept his eye on the balloon and pursued it in his vehicle for two hours. However, he felt like a fool when was unable to recover the balloon. Apparently, his girlfriend was angry when she found out what had happened. I can?t help but feel sorry for poor Lefkos. He made a rather expensive mistake. However, Leanne should feel fortunate. She may not have her diamond engagement ring, but she does have a future husband who knows how to be romantic and show his love in creative ways, and that?s priceless.

You Love Only Once
10 Mar 2008 at 8:15am

A beautiful girl was sitting on a chair at her customer service office. She was Nicole, a young girl in her early twenties.  As usual, that day, she was totally engrossed in her work. Around half past four, her boyfriend walked in to meet her. She was surprised to see him as he was expected to be out of town. She looked at him lovingly. Her boyfriend George reciprocated the same feeling through his bright eyes. He kissed her on the diamond engagement ring that he gave her on the engagement day.

                                                                           Diamond Engagement Ring

As he was looking at her, a man walked in and pointed a gun at Nicole and asked her to give the ring. When he asked her to give it to him, she said no as it was a symbol of their love. Her boyfriend couldn?t save her and to his pain he saw a bullet piercing her chest. He ran over to the killer and beat him over the head with an iron road that was lying there. Then he ran and called 911. When the ambulance came, he was sobbing uncontrollably near his girlfriend.

                                                                                Engagement Ring

A lady doctor came over and felt for her pulse. Then she stood up and said Nicole was still alive. Later at the hospital, as he was sitting beside her, he asked “Why didn’t you just give him the ring?” and then she softly spoke “Because when you gave it to me, you said it was part of your love for me and I knew if I gave him the ring, I would lose your precious love.” Nicole said that the diamond engagement ring meant a lot for her. The glittering ring was one of her best possession. The next day, she was pronounced dead. This sad story gives us a message: You love only once, you never love twice. And this story also tells us that diamond engagement rings are forever. It has great importance in our lives as it symbolizes love.

Diamond Wedding Band: Maintain Shine and Luster
8 Mar 2008 at 3:11am
Over time, it's common for a diamond wedding band to lose its shine and luster. However, you can maintain your diamond's luster with proper care. Like most precious items, diamonds should be cleaned on a regular basis. There are several ways to keep a diamond wedding band clean. You can visit a local jewelry retailer and receive a complimentary cleaning, or you can choose to clean the diamond at home.

Home cleaning is definitely convenient. Some people buy special solutions purposed to clean diamond jewelry. This is fine. However, these cleaning products are costly. If you're looking to save money, use liquid dishwashing soap.

Mix the liquid soap with warm water, and allow the diamond wedding band to soak for 30 minutes to one hour. Afterwards, use an old toothbrush or gentle brush and scrub the jewelry. This will remove all dirt, oils, and grime. Next, let the jewelry soak for an additional ten minutes. Finally, remove the diamond band from the water and air dry. Ideally, a diamond wedding band should be cleanend every one to two weeks.

It?s time for Celebration
6 Mar 2008 at 5:52am

It’s time for celebration once again. The reason: I have found my diamond engagement ring after one hour of tension. I am overjoyed. It?s really a great feeling as this engagement ring has great importance in my life. . My husband, John, a military officer is in Iraq to fight the terrorists; I haven?t met him since months. This sparkling diamond engagement ring reminds me of him.

                                                                         Diamond Engagement Ring

Let me tell you the story. It was the afternoon of January 21, 2008 when I lost the ring. The tragic incident happened with me in a grocery store when I was looking for some household items. I couldn?t realize when the ring slipped out of my finger. It was after 10 minutes, when, I realized that my ring was missing, I alerted the grocery store manager.

The alert went out and customers immediately began checking their bags in search of the glittering piece ? diamond engagement ring. The initial search turned up nothing.

But the atmosphere became panicky. I asked all the customers to relax and help in the search. I requested the manager to search the place where I was shopping. After one hour of search, an employee of the store shouted in joy.

?I have found the ring?, shouted George, the youngest employee of the store.

When I got the ring, my eyes filled up and I felt like crying. It is so precious for me. You cannot imagine the amount of joy I derived. This beautiful diamond engagement ring represents our love and my commitment to my husband. John, I am yours forever.

And needless to say diamond engagement rings are also forever.

Recieve Money for Your Diamond Engagement Ring or Any Diamond?
3 Mar 2008 at 4:39am
diamond engagement ring, diamond stud earringIf you purchased a diamond engagement ring, a diamond stud earring, diamond wedding band, any other diamond jewelry or loose gem diamonds between January 1, 1994 through March 1, 2006 while in the united states, you can file a claim to receive back a percentage of the cost of the diamond jewelry. It doesn't matter if you bought the diamond engagement ring or other jewelry as a gift, you can still receive back a percentage of your purchase for the diamond jewelry. There has been a lawsuit filed against DeBeers, who is the largest suppliers of rough diamonds in the world. The plaintiffs have accused DeBeers of unlawfully monopolizing the supply of diamonds, conspiring to fix, raise, and control diamond prices, and issuing false and misleading advertising. The proposed class action settlement is currently pending in the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey, so any payment is pending the results of the fairness hearing in April. To be considered for payment from the class action settlement you must file a claim before May 19, 2008 on your diamond engagement ring or other diamond purchases. You can go to diamondsclassaction.com to file a claim on line.

My love and diamond engagement ring
26 Feb 2008 at 3:39am

I am Anna Smith. When I was young maybe six or seven years old, I met a boy in the park next to my house. I was playing with my dog. He came up to me with a red rose in hand, gave it to me and said, ?Will you be my friend?? I readily agreed as the boy was cool and stylish. He had a good looking face, bright eyes and was tall for his age. We played there for a while and later left for our home. Two days later he came over and asked if he could play cops and robbers with me and from that day on we played everyday.
                                                            Diamond Engagement Ring

At 11, on my first day of Secondary school, I was nervous but he was there for me.  During lunch time, he cooled my nerves by cracking humorous jokes; a while later we sat down and ate lunch together. When the school closed that day, he was again there for me. He did this everyday for an entire year.

                                                       Three-stone diamond engagement rings

At 15, we went to our first proper party, and kissed each other. Though at 15, I was the only one in my class who had never been kissed, my boyfriend offered to show me how, and by the tree in the garden we shared our first kiss.
At 18, I was totally engrossed in love with him. He was my love. I still remember, it was a beautiful evening of February, 2007; we were sitting in the same park where we met each other for the first time, he showered his love with tempting words, after a while, out of nowhere, he brought out a diamond ring and proposed me. I was overjoyed and so was he. The diamond engagement ring that he gave me was brilliant in appearance. It was studded on a platinum ring. He kissed my hand after putting it on my finger. He made my evening as I always wanted to be his wife.

We informed our parents about our decision to be life partners. Needless to say, they were happy for us. I decided to carry the fragrance of our engagement to few more years and then surely will get married. I am expecting a stunning diamond wedding ring from my fiancé John. I know him; he will be gifting the best diamond wedding ring from glimmerrocks.com, a leading online jewelry store. Till then, let me remain immersed in the ocean of love.

Diamond Stud Earrings: The Basic Staple
24 Feb 2008 at 5:13pm
diamond stud earring, diamond engagement ring

Diamond stud earrings are a major staple to any woman's wardrobe. Sure, diamond engagement rings and diamond wedding bands are some of the first pieces that we think of diamond jewelry; however, it's diamond stud earrings that have been listed and re-listed as basic wardrobe necessities in various fashion publications, from how-to books to fashion magazines.

Diamond stud earrings have the ability to emanate a high degree of status, class and elegance. They can easily be worn through various times during the day and different occasions.

When can you sport diamond stud earrings? Anytime. Diamond stud earrings can be worn both day and night. Diamond stud earrings can also be worn for casual moments, semi-formal events, business meetings, and even a high end black tie event.

Diamond stud earrings are essentially the "Little Black Dress" of jewelry.

If you can't afford diamond stud earrings or you're simply in the process of saving up for the perfect pair, you can purchase Cubic Zirconium earrings instead. High quality Cubic Zirconium earrings cannot be differentiated between diamond stud earrings, unless you're a diamond connoisseur.

Diamond Engagement Ring
23 Feb 2008 at 5:23am
I have a friend who has a, what I think, beautiful marques diamond engagement ring, which was banded after the wedding with an equally beautiful wedding band.  The set was made to mesh together at an angle.  Both the diamond engagement ring and diamond wedding band were embedded with baguette's.  I think baguette's are elegant and truly enhance the look of  diamond rings.

Unfortunately I haven't seen this friend awhile and don't know whether of not she still enjoys her diamonds, but I know I surely would.

Most women enjoy some sort of fancy bauble on their finger, or fingers.  I have seen gals with something on every finger.  I have tried this, and find it uncomfortable, I am always fussing with them.  Turning, taking off and on, it's not for me.  But I do enjoy wearing diamonds, doesn't matter on my hand in my ears or on my wrist.  I think they are wonderful.

Buy Diamond Wedding Band Online
18 Feb 2008 at 2:21am
Getting married doesn't have to cost an arm and a leg. If you're looking for a nice diamond wedding band, but don't want to spend a lot of money on the item, consider buying the ring online. Several online retailers offer excellent deals on diamond wedding bands. There are many reasons why online retailers can afford to discount their merchandise and still make a profit. For starters, they have less overhead. Although online retailers have employees and they might also have a warehouse, they don't have to worry about costly monthly store rentals. In order to pay employees and maintain a storefront, on-site retailers have to mark-up the merchandise. Yet, if you were to buy a diamond wedding band from an online retailer, you will be able to receive a huge discount.

Furthermore, online wholesalers offer great deals on diamond wedding bands. Sign up as a wholesaler and resell wedding bands and other types of jewelry. This is a great way to make a little extra cash and save money on all your jewelry needs.

What kind of diamond wedding band should you get?
11 Feb 2008 at 6:58pm
Diamonds are forever, so even long after you've been decomposed - the stone you got your second half will still be around to treasure and keep your memory. So, with that said, what type of diamond wedding band do you get for the big day? There are many options, many dealers and many prices to choose from.

The diamond wedding band is a classic item and as such should have a classy design. In the end, it really doesn't matter how many diamonds you get or whether it is platinum, silver or gold. What really matters is if it is genuinely from the heart and the design matches the personality of the woman. Too often there are rings out there that go all out and have large, tacky designs that really don't do anything other than obnoxiously showing off one's wealth (or credit card debt). Diamonds were not about showing off wealth so much as they were about giving the gift of a unique item to show the person that they are unique and beautiful to you.

So, for your diamond wedding band - make sure it fits the bill and makes your significant other feel significant.

What is with the diamond wedding band?
30 Jan 2008 at 9:18pm
I've never been a traditional person, and have always wondered in the first place why we have a tradition of spending ludicrous amounts of money on shiny things, like the diamond wedding band.

Back in ages past, marriage was a sign of two people getting together out of love to create a family and further the community. Wedding presents existed, but were in the form of useful things like food, clothing or tools to help hunt or grow for more food. Although we boast how far we have come from those times, I think in many ways we have retrogressed away from the things that really matter.

If you are going to get married - do yourself a favor and skip the diamond wedding band. Get something more interesting - like a birthstone or engraving, or something that will mean more than just a pricetag. Life can be long or short, but regardless the things that matter most are those that are memories and nothing more.

So, skip the diamond wedding band and invest in something that is more fulfilling. Diamonds are forever, but your life is not.

Common Myths

Diamonds are a good Investment:  Most people buy diamonds to be worn, not sold, so diamonds are not a good investment.  Only through proper education and training could diamonds become a good investment.  For the average person, buying diamonds for their enjoyment and prestige is the way to go.

A Diamond Should Be Bought Strictly On Its Visual Appearance: Many people believe "what I can's see can't hurt me."  Practically an diamond looks good in a jewelry store.  The jeweler spends quite a bit on spotlights to make any quality diamond sparkle.  But unless you plan on carrying a spotlight with you everywhere you go, you'd better check the four c's or you might purchase a diamond that only looks good in a store and is lifeless everywhere else.

An Emerald Cut Diamond Is The Most Expensive Shape Diamond:  Many like the emerald cut diamonds but know they are the most expensive and can't afford them.  The emerald cut diamond is the least expensive of all the shapes.  It is the shape most like the natural shape of the rough, so there is a little bit less waste during the cutting.  If you like emerald cut diamonds, enjoy them, don't avoid them.

Diamonds Are A Bad Investment:  Diamonds may not be a good investment for the average person, but they certainly aren't a bad investment.  If a diamond is purchased at the right price, it will most certainly hold its value.  Since the diamond crash of 1979, when D flawless diamonds fell in value from seventy-five thousand dollars to under fifteen thousand dollars, the price of diamonds has been increasing constantly.

No Diamond Is Perfect:  A perfect diamond is flawless under a 10X loupe, no trace of color, and perfectly proportioned.  Even though they are rare, there are such diamonds around.

It Is Difficult To Tell The Difference Between A Diamond And A Cubic Zirconia:  Any good jeweler can tell the difference immediately.  A cubic zirconia has more of a plastic look.  There seems to be a light-blue cast throughout the entire stone.  One sure way to determine the difference is by weighing the cubic zirconia.  A zirconia will weigh about 65% more.

Diamonds Are Expensive:  Some are, some aren't.  Depends on their quality.  Believe it or not it's possible to get a one-carat diamond for as low as three hundred dollars of it's junky enough.

Diamonds Are A Girl's Best Friend:  Some women very much dislike diamonds and think they are a waste of money.   I for one think they are wonderful!

Common Myths About Diamonds

Diamonds are Forever:  A diamond will only be forever if you take care of it.  If you don't a diamond can chip, fracture, or break.  Even a diamond should come with a care instruction tag.

Diamonds are Very Rare:  There is more of a man-made shortage than a natural shortage.  The distribution of the number of diamonds put on the market each year is highly regulated.  There are really enough diamonds to give each man, woman and child in the United States a whole cupful.

Women are More Size Conscious Than Quality Conscious: Close but, not quite.  Even though most women believe that bigger is better, there are still quite a few women out there that will sacrifice size to get a better quality diamond.

A Diamond is The Most Expensive Gemstone:  There are several other genstones that are more expensive.  A top quality ruby can be worth over thirty thousand dollars a carat.

A Large Diamond is Always Worth More Than A Small Diamond:  Size is only one criteria for judging a diamond.  A small, high-clarity, high-color diamond can cost more than a large, low-clarity, low-color diamond.

After a Diamond Has Been Cut, Little Diamonds Can b\Be Cut From The Shavings:  Most of the time there are no shavings, only dust.  Most diamonds are ground down and there aren't any little pieces left to cut anything else.  Diamonds are ground, not whittled.

A Fancy Shaped Diamond Is More Difficult To Cut Than A Round Diamond:  Most all diamonds are difficult to cut, and some large diamonds take more time and effort to cut than smaller diamonds do.  But one diamond is not harder to cut than another just because of its shape.

Diamond Legends

Diamond Legend Information

Some unique diamonds are legends because of their size, color, beauty and history.

The Culligan Diamond--One of the largest diamonds ever found was in South Africa and named for the owner of the mining company.  The Cullinan diamond was 3106 carats.  It was cut into 105 beautiful diamonds.  The largest is the Star of Africa, a 530 carat diamond.  In 1907 this diamond was given to King Edward VII of England and set into the Royal Scepter.  It is kept, along with the other British Crown Jewels, in the Tower of London.

The Hope Diamond--A 44 carat blue diamond set as a pendant with 16 white diamonds surrounding it and a chain of 45 white diamonds.  This diamond has an infamous reputation and fluoresces with a unique reddish color when exposed to ultraviolet light.  Donated to the Smithsonian.

The Excelsior Diamond--A large diamond weighing 995 carats was found in 1893 by an African mine worker.  The name Excelsior meaning higher, came from the stone's original shape - flat on one side and rising to a peak on the other.  It was cut into 21 diamonds, the largest being 69 carats.  The diamonds were sold to undisclosed parties.  The Excelsior 1 was purchased in 1996 by Robert Mouawad.

The Regent Diamond--Found on the Kistna River, India in 1701, this 410 carat stone originally known at the Pitt.  The diamond was sold to Thomas Pitt who sent it to England to have it cut and polished.  The result was a brilliant cushion shaped diamond of 140 carats.  In 1717 it was sold to the Duke of Orleans, regent of France, from which it gets the name Regent.  The royals used the stone in many ways including being set in the Crown of Louis XV, as a hair ornament of Queen Marie and as an adornment in the hat of Marie Antoinette.  After the French Revolution the stone was set in the hilt of Napoleon Bonaparte's sword.  Napoleon's wife Marie Louisa, carried the Regent back to Austria upon his death.  Later her father returned it to the French Crown Jewels.  Today, it remains in the French Royal Treasury at Louvre.

Titanic

The success of the 1998 movie, has reignited interest in the history of the Ocean Liner, her passengers and her diamonds.  The love story of Rose and Jack featured the fabulous "Heart of the Ocean" diamond necklace and other beautiful jewelry, but what is known of the actual Titanic and it's treasures?  Was there a lost fortune in diamonds and what is known about the recovered diamonds and jewelry?

One of the treasures known to be on board the maiden voyage of the White Star Line Titanic was a priceless copy of the Rubyiat of Omar Khayiam. This book of poetry was encrusted with 1,500 precious stones set in gold.  Can you imagine how incredible this must have been?

At the time Newspapers reported that "there was known to be a small fortune in diamonds aboard the Titanic,"  Some reports stated that 2 brothers boarded the ocean liner and carried a shipment of diamonds from Switzerland.  It is estimated the diamonds would be worth well over $200 million today.  There are also stories of family members traveling in 2nd class to avoid notice while traveling with valuable diamonds and jewels.  What is known for certainty, is that many of the passengers were wealthy beyond compare and many did travel with gold and jewels.  Makes you want to rent diving gear.

The Makay-Bennett, a search ship, records many instances of diamonds and jewels.  One crew member told that while inspecting pockets of one man (later identified as Austin Blyler van Billiard), "seventeen diamonds rolled out in every direction upon the littered deck."

Among the artifacts recovered from underwater expeditions to the Titanic are 2 rings - one with 60 diamonds and an exquisite Sapphire and Diamond ring.  Other treasures include an elegant 3 stone Diamond Ring and a bracelet with the name "Amy" spelled out in gemstones.

Further research of the Titanic will focus on the leather bags of the pursers.  Protocol would have the pursers load the diamonds, gold and passenger jewelry into leather bags to be loaded onto lifeboats.  It is believed these bags would be located near Titanic's front cargo hold.

The Titanic movie featured Kate Winslett as Rose wearing "The Heart of the Ocean" - a blue diamond necklace based on the famous Hope Diamond, (the actual Hope diamond was never on the Titanic)  This stunning necklace has captured the imaginations of romantics everywhere.

Jewelers Asprey & Garrard were inspired to make a real Heart of the Ocean diamond necklace. The result was a 170 carat heart shaped sapphire with 65 diamonds, each 30 carats.  Celine Dion wore it at the Oscar ceremony.  It was later sold at a benefit auction for $2.2 million.  Sixty-five diamonds, all in one place!

Jeweler Harry Winston created a "Heart of the Ocean" blue diamond necklace.  The $20 million necklace was worn by Gloria Stuart, who portrayed Rose as an older woman.

Wedding Jewelry-Celebrities

"A Diamond is Forever" and so are the legendary weddings of the rich and famous.  Their sparkling engagement rings and wedding jewelry enchant us.  Those gifts of love and fairy tale weddings make unforgettable memories of romance.

The first known instance of a diamond engagement ring is in 1477 medieval Europe uniting the houses of Habsburg and Burgundy, Maximillian I of Austria commissioned a diamond ring for his bride Mary of Burgundy.  The marriage appears to have been a happy one and the left us a rich legacy in a manuscript - the Book of Hours.

The 1953 "wedding of the year" saw elegant Jacqueline Kennedy wearing a 2 carat diamond and emerald engagement ring.  Her wedding dress was ivory silk taffeta and she wore her grandmother's rosepoint lace veil.

The tiara was of lace and orange blossoms.  Jackie's wedding jewelry consisted of a pearl necklace, a diamond leaf pin (gift from the Kennedy's) and a pearl and diamond bracelet. (wedding present from John Kennedy).

Prince Rainier of Monaco gave Hollywood's princess, Grace Kelly, a 12 carat emerald cut diamond engagement ring.  She wore the ring in her last movie, High Society.  During a close up in the 1956 film, Bing Crosby quips, "Some stone, did you mine it yourself?"

Princess Grace of Monaco wore a wedding gown by Hollywood designer Helen Rose - silk with a bodice of 125 year old lace.  Upon her marriage, Prince Rainier also gave Princess Grace a diamond and pearl necklace, bracelet and earring set from Van Cleef & Arpel.

Elvis gave Priscilla a 3.5 carat engagement ring surrounded by 21 smaller diamonds.  They were married at the Aladdin Hotel in Las Vegas.  Elvis wore a tuxedo and Western boots.  Priscilla designed her own wedding gown of white silk chiffon beaded with seed pearls.

When diamonds are bestowed to you, whether as a gift or for a wedding, you feel special and important to the giver.  Nothing like a diamond bracelet, or diamond earrings to bring a spring to your step, of course that is after the wedding and the wonderful diamonds placed on your finger at that occasion.  At one anniversary or another  a  diamond necklace  is a joy  also.

To own a diamond is to own something truly beautiful, meaningful, and often very valuable.  Though the size and type of diamond can be quite a symbol of status, owning diamonds or a diamond is not necessarily status. It is more like owning something spiritual.  When a woman struggling through the day notices the diamond engagement ring on her hand, it makes her feel better.  It reminds her of someone she loves and let's her know why she, too, is doing her best.  The fire she sees in the diamond fuels the fire in her heart to keep on.  The diamond wedding band a husband is wearing reminds him of his wife and family and inspires him to do better in his career.  He, too, is up lifted by the sparkle in the diamond and the love in his heart.  Every woman should own diamond stud earring or earrings.  Sometimes the most expensive part of her outfit is the diamond stud earring or earrings she wears.  That is all the symbol of power she may need to feel equal to her peers.  Men look great when they wear a diamond stud earring. They also look good wearing a diamond wedding band.  These days, more and more men wear diamonds.  Why not glitter the peacock!  I still think a diamond engagement ring is best suited for women.

Diamond Legends and Myths
17 Jan 2008 at 5:14am

Marilyn Monroe

Here is a diamond legend and myth,  Marilyn did not have diamonds.  Mostly she had costume jewelry.  Her private collection had only 2 valuable pieces.  An eternity ring and a strand of pearls, both give to her by Joe DiMaggio.

Marilyn did help promote the diamond industry in her many appearances wearing diamonds loaned to her by top jewelers.  She received an award by the Jewelry Academy, the award is inscribed: To Marilyn Monroe, the best friend a diamond ever had.

When Marilyn and Joe married in 1954 her diamond wedding band was an eternity band with 25 baguette-cut diamonds.  It sold at auction for $772,500 (even with a missing stone) to an anonymous bidder.

The infamous glittering "Happy Birthday, Mr. President" gown (Gotta Have It!  Collectibles purchased the gown for $1,267,500)

The necklace was given to Marilyn on her honeymoon in Japan, it was a 16 inch strand of pearls, with 44 Mikimoto pearls.

Marilyn gave the necklace to Paula Strasberg.  Paula's daughter Susan Strasberg returned it to Mikimoto in 1998.

Necklace & Pendants: Give Your Personality a New Touch
14 Jan 2008 at 11:29pm

Since ages, many magnificent things had been used by women to add charm to their beauty. Centuries have passed but correctly what has remained as a women?s oldest friend is jewelry comprising lavish gold necklaces, gold pendants, diamond necklaces and diamond pendants. Along with breathtaking archeological construction and buildings what has fascinated historians is unearthing of unique ancient jewelry, no matter which part of the world it has been. Infact it can brighten soul of any women wearing it.

Women and men had adored themselves with jewelry since Stone Age, though at that time they used bones, wood, animal teeth and carved stone pieces. Diamonds is something which was not heard about before the Victorian era.

Jewelry is a very important aspect of a women?s personality as it helps in adding worth to her attire and style. It can be her one of the most priced possession and something which she is most sentimental about. A woman with a diamond pendant will have more sparks in her eye as compared to the spark her pendant is having. That?s the charisma of diamond!  We all know that diamond necklaces are something which women crave for. Men have been using it as a gift to win over the heart of their ladies and will continue to do it till infinity. It had been so much that jewelry found a very honorary position in our culture and traditions. From bridal jewelry to engagement rings, women want to reflect her grace through jewelry.

But we should not forget that there is something else which has the capability of re-defining a women?s beauty. That?s extremely chaste pearls. A traditional round pearl necklace consists of 42 pearls. If we talk about Freshwater pearl necklace they are not only elegant but stylish too.

In ancient ages, Crystal had been used in chandeliers and figurines. But now they are a favorite of fashion conscious girls and women. Crystals carved into shape of droplets or sphere makes attractive pendants. Reflection of various colors when light hits them, make crystals look expensive and stylish.

Depending on the occasions and upcoming trends, pendants can be gifted defining the personality of the person it?s gifted to. There are sports pendant, friendship pendant, gemstone pendant and pendant lockets. So why are you keeping your loved ones waiting? Pendant is something with which you can reflect your own style, your likes-dislikes. Infact, pendants being unisex, it can be worn by both man and women.

But women often get confused regarding the type of necklace suiting their persona. Let?s make shopping necklaces for you a bit easy. The shape of a women?s face is a very good indicator of how long a necklace should be. Generally women with round face look good in long necklaces as it provides a lengthening effect to their face and women with oval face can go for any length, as all suits them.

With the passing time and as more and more designers are getting into this market, we can now find a huge collections to choose from. You can easily find pendants of different styles and material hanging at different stores. People generally prefer diamond solitaires necklaces, diamond pendants, gemstone necklaces, gemstones pendants and also those made from gold.

Truly, till the beauty of women rules the world, jewelry will also do that!!

What is the deal with the diamond engagement ring?
14 Jan 2008 at 4:52am
If it is one thing I do not understand, it is the diamond engagement ring. As if you need to spend another few thousand dollars just to "reserve" your place in line with the woman you love. It just doesn't make any sense.

Do you know that the average diamond engagement ring costs about three to four thousand dollars? The thing about diamonds and gold is that they are universally priced, too. So, going to the Philippines to buy your stuff is only going to result in a waste of a plane ticket. Because companies like DeBeers have a monopoly on the diamond market, prices will stay the same no matter where you go. So, how do you escape the diamond engagement ring dilemma?

You just get married instead.

Engagement is just a waste of money and time. It is a backdated process from the Victorian era when women had reservations on them. If your relationship is good, you do not need another name and an expensive ring for it to improve - so, save your money and buy only one ring by marrying instead!

Jewelers
11 Jan 2008 at 8:48am

Cut is often decided by the original shape of the rough stone, location of the inclusions and flaws to be eliminated, the preservation of the weight, popularity of shapes and some other factors.

Personal taste and preference determines the cut of the diamond.  When jewelers judge the quality of a cut diamond, they often rate "Cut" as the most important of the "4-Cs."  The shape is not key, but how well the cutters executed the shape.  Since the brilliance and fire of a diamond depends on the angle of the facets in relation to each other.  A poorly cut diamond with facets cut only a few degrees from optimal will result in a stone that lacks the gem quality.  If a diamond is cut for fire, rather than a balance between brilliance and fire
it looks more like a cubic zerconi which gives out more fire than a real diamond.

Cutters can compromise and accept lesser in order to avoid inclusions or to preserve the carat rating.  Since the per-caret price of diamond is much higher when the stone is over one caret.  Many one-caret diamonds are the result of compromising "Cut" for "Caret". Jewelers may advise to buy a 0.99 carat diamond  for a better price or buy a 1,10 carat diamond for its better cut.  A 1.00 carat diamond is usually poorly cut.

Some of the stone cuts are:
Round
Radiant
Pear
Marquise
Emerald
Oval
Heart
Princess

These choices remain with the customer and vary with each individual.

How's this for a Diamond In The Rough?

Diamond star thrills astronomers Twinkling in the sky is a diamond star of 10 billion trillion trillion carats, astronomers have discovered.

The cosmic diamond is a chunk of crystallized carbon, 4,000 km across, some 50 light-years from the Earth in the constellation Centaurus.

It's the compressed heart of an old star that was once bright like our Sun but has since faded and shrunk.

Astronomers have decided to call the star "Lucy" after the Beatles song, Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds.

Twinkle twinkle

"You would need a jeweller's loupe the size of the Sun to grade this diamond," says astronomer Travis Metcalfe, of the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, who led the team of researchers that discovered it.

The diamond star completely outclasses the largest diamond on Earth, the 546-carat Golden Jubilee which was cut from a stone brought out of the Premier mine in South Africa.

The huge cosmic diamond - technically known as BPM 37093 - is actually a crystallised white dwarf. A white dwarf is the hot core of a star, left over after the star uses up its nuclear fuel and dies. It is made mostly of carbon.

For more than four decades, astronomers have thought that the interiors of white dwarfs crystallised, but obtaining direct evidence became possible only recently.

The white dwarf is not only radiant but also rings like a gigantic gong, undergoing constant pulsations.

"By measuring those pulsations, we were able to study the hidden interior of the white dwarf, just like seismograph measurements of earthquakes allow geologists to study the interior of the Earth.

"We figured out that the carbon interior of this white dwarf has solidified to form the galaxy's largest diamond," says Metcalfe.

Astronomers expect our Sun will become a white dwarf when it dies 5 billion years from now. Some two billion years after that, the Sun's ember core will crystallize as well, leaving a giant diamond in the centre of the solar system.

"Our Sun will become a diamond that truly is forever," says Metcalfe.

After reading this story I thought, how cool would it be if this thing dropped to earth.  Maybe we all could get a piece for no other reason than having one.  Can you possibly imagine the size of this diamond?  Seems the phrase, "as above so below", really does work,  after all diamonds have been mined some centuries now.  Here's to Diamonds in the Sky.

Any idea how many pieces of diamond jewelry could be created for this mother lode.  Seems like the glaciers aren't the only source of diamond production. Crystallization occurs everywhere, as I understand it that is how diamonds form.

2 Jan 2008 at 9:45am

The word 'jewelry' is from the French word 'jouel' which was earlier made from natural materials like shells, animal teeth, wood, stone, bones.  In the ancient past different types of jewelries were warn for different reasons.  Different types of jewelries indicated the status of the people.  As time past, materials used to make jewelries moved from natural to synthetic.

Jewelries were made from gold, silver, white gold, platinum embedded with diamonds, emerald, ruby, sapphire, etc, and is now considered to be one of proud possession. Jewelries in any form or material have always been alluring and attractive to everyone.

A lesson in diamond engagement rings from Sex in the City
2 Jan 2008 at 5:07am
Today, I relaxed by watching Sex in the City in order to prepare myself for the upcoming movie. The episode was about Carrie Bradshaw finding a diamond engagement ring in her boyfriend's bag. This was certainly a ring with the intention of eventual marriage and not a gift of diamond stud earrings which could mean practically anything. Unfortunately, the diamond engagement ring was not exactly what she wanted (pear shaped diamond and gold band). Carrie's friend Miranda helped Aiden, Carrie's boyfriend find the ring. However, Miranda approved the wrong ring for her style. Although the situation was fixed with the help of the guidance of Carrie's friend Samantha and Carrie ended up getting the ring she wanted. This is just another situation that proves that you need a friend who understands both you and your style in order to help your boyfriend find the perfect ring.

If your boyfriend is smart, he will get the aid of a friend or family member to find the perfect diamond engagement ring for you. Perhaps, it's a good idea to let your friends know exactly what you want in the case of this occurring. If your relationship is reaching that point nearing marriage, perhaps, you may feel comfortable in discussing the subject of diamond engagement rings. Your boyfriend may even take you along to find the perfect ring.

A diamond engagement ring is highly important in many women's lives. Sometimes, it is even more important than the diamond wedding band itself. A diamond engagement ring reflects the woman's style.

Anyone receive diamonds from Santa?  We would like to hear about your gift of diamonds.  I know when I received mine I was excited and very proud to wear and show.  I don't think I would like to get a diamond engagement ring for a Christmas gift, while I understand it solves two problems for a guy, it diminishes the moment for a gal.  Engagement is a milestone for a lady, and she would prefer to have a special day for her diamond engagement ring moment.  Couples have their song, and should have their engagement.  In any case ladies and gentlemen I wish you happiness and marriages that last for many years.

Please, anyone who received diamonds for Christmas, tell us about your experience.  How do you feel about your diamond?

Happy New Year

Is there anything more fun than the new diamond engagement ring?
19 Dec 2007 at 9:01am
Diamonds are a beautiful thing. I love the way they sparkle and catch the light. I often look at other people's diamond rings to see what design they have chosen. I like the look of a nice diamond engagement ring and diamond wedding band set. I especially like white gold because it enhances the look of the diamonds. I get a kick out of watching the newly engaged woman showing off her diamond engagement ring. Her eyes often sparkle as much as her ring. A beautiful diamond ring doesn't have to have a huge diamond. Diamonds can be very pricey, especially the bigger ones. A cluster of small diamonds give the same effect as a big diamond. Even if the ring has fewer diamonds, it is the way the stones are set and the design that gives it that special look. A person doesn't have to break their bank account to find a pretty ring. It is also fairly popular now for the guy to wear a diamond stud earring. I think that looks ok, too.

2. Her day-to-day activities - The type of ring you choose for her, would have to complement what she wears or else it will be extremely hard for her to keep it on a daily basis.

Diamond Engagement Ring for the Holidays
18 Dec 2007 at 9:02pm
A diamond engagement ring may be the perfect present to get your significant other during the holiday seasons. If you're conservative with money, now can be the perfect time to get your loved one a diamond engagement ring. Why? Because it doubles as a Christmas present. This may sound like a cheap strategy; however, diamond engagement rings are certainly not cheap. According to recent statistics, diamond engagement rings have risen to the cost of an average of approximately $4,500. Diamond engagement rings are no doubt expensive and can sometimes be the most expensive aspect towards a wedding.

However, if you're not ready to make the commitment plunge, you can still purchase diamond stud earrings. Earrings are also an exciting present because they can be a basic for any woman's wardrobe. If you're already married, you can upgrade her diamond wedding band to a much more impressive stone. After all, as a magazine advertisement put it: What do her diamonds say about you?

Back to the subject of diamond engagement rings. Diamond engagement rings are quite possibly the most exciting surprise for your significant other. Offer a diamond engagement ring as a present on Christmas morning and she will certainly be surprised and shocked- hopefully, in a good way.

13 Dec 2007 at 6:10am

diamond stud earring

Diamond stud earrings are a great addition to a woman's wardrobe. Why? They can be worn with anything.

This holiday season, if you've already gotten your loved one a diamond engagement ring or a diamond wedding band- or if you just aren't ready for that kind of commitment- surprise her with diamond stud earrings.

Nothing says class more than some gorgeous diamond stud earrings. They're minimalist, yet they reap the benefits of expressing status. If you think diamond studs are way over your budget, Target has some affordable diamond jewelry. However, if you want high quality diamond studs, nothing makes a woman more excited than Cartier or Tiffany & Co. Diamond studs can be offered at several price ranges; however it's up to you whether you're willing to dish the cash.

Diamond studs are arguably the most perfect accessory. Not only will they fit a woman's wardrobe at this present moment, they can be worn for the rest of her life. So, think about diamond studs as an investment. Unlike technology or current trends in fashion, diamond studs never get too old.

Find a Discounted Diamond Wedding Band
7 Dec 2007 at 9:19am

diamond wedding bandOther women have made a few snide remarks about my wedding band. It has a movable platinum centerpiece decorated with the Greek eternity symbol. My husband has a matching wedding band. He bought them in Athens. Somebody once had the audacity to imply I must be stuck-up because I didn't opt for something plain. I didn't think it worth telling them I didn't choose it. I'd never have been presumptuous enough to choose something that ornate, though I must admit my wedding band is lovely.

If you are planning to marry, a diamond wedding band will really make other people jealous. A diamond wedding band will most certainly look superior to the ring I have, though mine cost over six hundred dollars. Fortunately, a diamond wedding band might not be as expensive as you think, especially if you use a shopping search engine like NexTag. I used NexTag to find an exquisite platinum diamond wedding band for just $770 at a site called daimondocean.com. That might seem expensive, but this ring is currently half its normal price. Additionally, a diamond wedding band could cost you a great deal of money, so a platinum one that costs less than one thousand bucks is definitely a bargain.

A diamond engagement ring needn't break the bank.
1 Dec 2007 at 5:12am

diamond engagement ring

Nothing beats the beauty of a great diamond, but when it comes to buying a diamond engagement ring, many people break their personal bank account to pieces. Why? Well, there's often a lot of high pressure sales people in the market, and they love to prey on sentiment. I mean, isn't that what buying a diamond engagement ring is all about--sentiment? If you look back in history, people weren't in love with diamonds, they were in love with people. A diamond engagement ring was not a necessity--it was a huge luxury. But, as times have changed, it's now a very acceptable part of our society, and the people that sell diamond engagement rings turn up the pressure, especially on young, inexperienced couples. The sales people really play the sentiment card. So, what if you could buy your diamond engagement ring without the pressure of sales executives? What is you could research values and prices in the comfort and quiet of your own home, where you could make a calm, knowledgeable decision, with none of the pressure of the usual diamond engagement ring outings? Well, it's here--get on the Net and surf until you find the value and price you're really looking for; because, a diamond engagement ring needn't break the bank anymore.

The first thing I ask a newly engaged girl is for her to show me her ring. They always proudly display their left hand with the sparkling diamond engagement ring, front and center. Wearing a diamond engagement ring holds such a tradition in our society. It signifies young, new love and with the brightness of the stone it reminds us of brighter days ahead and great things to come. Adding a diamond wedding band to the already spectacular diamond engagement ring is the final touch of class. Diamonds are ageless and their beauty and elegance carries on through the centuries. How many women do you know who wear the treasured diamond wedding band of a beloved grandmother or great grandmother? This incredible jewel is as stunning today as it was hundreds of years ago. Even the wearing of a diamond stud earring adds a touch of class to an outfit and a boost of sparkle to a new hairdo or make up day. If you are looking for the perfect gift that will never go out of style, invest in a gorgeous diamond piece of jewelry and make your loved one sparkle.

The diamond engagement ring is said to be "A symbol of everlasting purity, love, devotion and commitment between two people". But when did the tradition of giving your intended bride to be a diamond engagement ring start? It is said that the Archduke Maximilian of Hamburg was the man who started the trend by presenting a betrothal ring, (a diamond engagement ring) to his intended to Mary of Burgundy in 1477. It is believed that the ancient Romans then started the tradition of placing the engagement ring on the third finger of the left hand since it was believed that the vein in this finger ran directly to the heart. During the middle ages diamonds became the gem of choice for engagements rings because since diamonds are the strongest mineral on earth it was believed to symbolize the unbending union of a man and woman's marriage. In the 18th century diamond cluster engagement rings became a symbol of wealth, so if you received a huge cluster diamond engagement ring everyone knew you came from money. In the 1940's DeBeers came up with the slogan "a diamond is forever to market diamond engagement rings and to ensure the continued tradition of giving a diamond to the one you love.

Diamond Engagement Ring Shopping

Hi Shoppers, Mama B here:

When shopping for "the diamond engagement ring", you have to pay attention to your girlfriend, finding the right diamond engagement ring depends on it.

Most guys don't have a clue about diamonds, why would you, this is hopefully, once in a life shopping.

Finding the stone is easy, finding the setting more challenging.  What color, look at the jewellery she wears most often, is it yellow gold or white gold.  If you need to ask, find a way to be vague, use a friend as a cover, pretend he bought something for his girl, this way discussion is started.  Once you get color decided, then you want to know style.  Single stone, stone with side stones, triple stones.  What she wants in a diamond engagement ring is hard to know,  if all else fails, ask one of her friends, one you can trust to keep a secret.  You could also check to see if she likes flashy jewellery, or simple jewelry which may make your decision easier.

Above all enjoy this event, and I hope you get the reaction you want.
