Question: Will a true sterling silver ring turn your finger green?
I bought a supposed sterling silver ring (Ebay) and it turned my finger green in a matter of 3 hours. I currently wear other sterling silver rings on the same hand (even on the same finger) and they do not have the same effect. They seller tells me it is Sterling. Did he lie?

Answer: He lied - sterling sliver will not turn your finger ...
He lied - sterling sliver will not turn your finger green. Sometimes jewelry will be coated in silver, and when the coating starts to rub off, the metal underneath can turn your finger green. Only cheap metals like copper do that - it's called oxidization, and occurs due to the metal's contact with sweat and organic matter (skin).

Answer: Ok relax, and don't listen to everybody else on ...
Ok relax, and don't listen to everybody else on here...Green skin DOES NOT mean your ring isn't real.... Sterling silver is an alloy of silver 92.5% and copper 7.5%. When it is worked by a jeweler it will be heated if it is soldered. As a result it may become coated in red copper oxide. Usually this is removed by pickling in a solution of sodium bisulphite which produces a weak sulphuric acid solution. If you have a ring that has not been properly pickled prior to polishing it may still have copper on its surface that will react with your perspiration to make a green copper compound that stains the skin. I would suggest soaking your rings in a mixture of household ammonia and water (50/50)for a day or two. The ammonia solution will turn blue as it forms a copper ammonia ion and this will not hurt the silver. After that, your rings will not turn your skin green because the copper has been removed from the surface of the sterling. Another problem with sterling silver is that it can turn black if you eat a lot of garlic. Again perspiration attacks the silver and in this case I am not sure of the chemical reaction. Proper pickling and polishing will remove the black and restore the silver to its glory. If possible get your silver plated with rhodium and it will never tarnish and cause problems. A final note: Some people just have very strong perspiration that chemically attacks even low (10) karat gold alloys and slowly dissolves a ring from the inside out

He's lying. You should take everything an eBay seller says with a grain of salt What I've found works with cheap rings though is if you paint a thin layer of clear nail polish on the surface that comes in contact with your finger, it won't turn your finger green. Every once in a while you'll have to repeat this step because the nail polish will wear off.

ok I have never got this butttt, I nearly punched out a jewler for selling me a 'non' genuine sterling silver ring, I got green staining and assumed it was a mixed fake. once I gotmoney back I went to an upmarket jewler and the exact same thing happened!!!! I went back and they assured me that it was 100%, I gotmoney back anyways but supposely it does occur??? Im still not a beleiver but hey thats what they said =\

Answer: Yes, he lied. Sterling silver does not turn your skin green ...
Yes, he lied. Sterling silver does not turn your skin green - cheaper metals do though. It's probably silver mixed with something esle, not Sterling. I believe you can sue him for false advertising under the Sales of Goods act. Probably cheaper just to report him and/or ask for your money back.

Answer: Its not silver. Real Silver and Gold wont turn your finger ...
Its not silver. Real Silver and Gold wont turn your finger green. Report him for selling fake jewlery and make him give you a refund. As a ebay buyer myself I know that he is forced to give you your money back because it is false advertising. Talk with him first to see if he will give you your money back. Give it a week for him to reply. If he doesnt answer in about a week or he doesnt want to cooperate make a claim through Ebay. After so give him negative feedback.

Sorry to break it to you but...yes, he lied. Sterling silver never does that. (My grandma is a jewelry fanatic and won't let me wear anything but the real thing because it will either turnfingers green or infectears from the cheap earrings)...you need to contact the person you bought it from on ebay and send it back and get your money back and if he doesn't I would take further action because he sold you a product that wasn't what he said it was.

Question: I mixed my white gold ring with a fake silver ring. does it affect the quality of my white gold ring?
does my white gold ring becomes fake too? what I mean by mixed is that I store them together in one box or wear them in the same finger.

Answer: What do mean bye mixed? You melted it? If you did melt it ...
What do mean bye mixed? You melted it? If you did melt it then it would just have less gold in it by ratio. If you melted it with nickel ,lead, or copper it is still gold but those kind of metals corrode easily. You would have to clean it more often. Some people are allergic to those three and it would be worthless to them if they did that.

Answer: nothing can turn real gold into fake gold. Storing ...
nothing can turn real gold into fake gold. Storing different items together is fine. The only damage that can be done, and it takes a while to do it, is if the items rub together too much by moving them around alot. This will only wear down the softer items but will not effect the gold purity content of the ring.
