Question: Allergic to silver necklace?
Is it possible I am allergic to a silver necklace? I never wear small metal necklaces, but my bf bought me a pretty solid heart necklace from Tiffany's, but everytime I wear it my throught tightens up more and more throughout the day. I didn't really connect the two until today when I was wearing the necklace and the same thing happened! I thought it was from some earrings I was wearing before (maybe allergy, mixed metal from Chanel), but I didn't wear the earrings since I am thinking I am allergic to them since they keep making my ears bleed (i am not doing anything to make them bleed!). I have silver bracelets from Tiffany, and no problem, but this is my first "metal" necklace, and maybe because it is so close to my head it is causing a resperatory allergy? I just got an inhaler from the doctor because I have had trouble breathing and have had a sore throat, but it all cleared up once I stopped wearing the necklace, but not all the symptoms are coming back again. Can my pretty necklace really be doing this? It wasn't cheap, about $125. it was $150. Would this be cheap silver? like plated? here is the link to the necklace on their website. http://www.tiffany.com/Shopping/Item.aspx?sku=21124656&mcat=148204&cid=288155&search_params=s+5-p+1-c+288155-r+-x+-n+6-ri+-ni+0-t+ When I don't wear it, it clears up. I didn't really think about the metal reactiing with my beauty products. I use a moisturizer on my neck and I spray perfume on my chest area. Both products are fine on their own, but I didn't think about them mixing with the necklace.

Yes, it can. Just don't wear it awhile and see if the problem clears up. Even thought it was costly and supposed to be silver, it might not be. It could have lead in it or maybe you have a lotion or something that is reacting with the metal. I would try not wearing the necklace and see what happens.

Yes If you eat it,lick it, or burn it. Other wise its perfectly fine.

First, it depends if it is easily accesable to your mouth. then, only if it gets in your mouth and particles break off and gets in to your blood stream. However, it has to be a fairly large amount, the thing about lead is that it is everywhere, it is in old buildings, it was likely in the paint that you played with as a child or on the toys you played with when you were young. It is also in the air that you breathe and in the water that you drink. The small amount of lead in your necklace is probably not enough to do any harm under normal circumstances. It is understandable to be scared just becasue of how our society has branded lead as an "evil" metal, but you really do need to accumulate a large amount in your blood stream for it to hurt you. It is much more harmful to a child, so if you get it, the only real danger is if the child was to put in its mouth, and even then, if it is silver-covered lead, the child may not even come into contact with the lead. Hope that helped! :)
