Welcome to JewelrySoupJewelry Soup: Pearl Necklace Jewelry Question: Chanel pearl string necklaces?
I am referring to the long ones where there is also the odd Chanel logo on the necklace too. I hope you know the ones I mean! I think they come in black or white.
Does anybody know how much they cost? And if so, where I can buy them from? (In Britain and not on the Internet, especially not eBay!)
Thanks, I hope you can help :)

I am a pawnbroker in WA. My shop does not accept pearls, but a shop accross town loans on them. The owner was telling me that pearls have become less desirable over the years, but he loans based on the weight of the whole piece. For pearls he loans about $5 per gram if they are in good shape and are round with little inclusions. For lesser quality he loans $2 per gram. Hope this helps! The best thing you can do is go down to the shop and have them look at it.Question: How do you clean a pearl necklace?

You never use harsh soaps or cleaners as this can damage the nacre which are the layers which make up the luster and the coatings of the pearl. Just a soft damp cloth is the best thing to use on pearls. Here is a link to read for care of pearls. Some of these answers would ruin your pearls. Also using lemon juice would totally dissolve the nacre of your pearls if done as this is acidic. The normal life expectancy of peals is usually around 100 years, so much care must be used to take care of them. You also should have them re-strung if you wear them a lot, after 5 to 8 years, as the perfume you wear is hard on the pearls, and the string that is used. Dirt, body oil and perspiration need to be cleaned off after you wear them. Use the mildest soap to wash your pearls.

Use only a cloth dampened in clean water. Do not soak them as sometimes getting them completley wet can detoriate the internal thread.
Do not use anything acidic or alkaline as this will damage the nacre of the pearl. A good cloth to use for expensive pearls is a camera lens cleaning cloth as these tend to be lint and scratch free.
You can clean the clasp according to what it is made of. For cheaper base metals only lightly rub them with a clean cloth. For silver of gold use a good quality polish cloth.Answer: Lammy sir have your butler take care of it.
