Question: How much is a pearl necklace worth?
I have a pearl necklace that is about 100 years old. My great grandmother gave me it when I was young, she got it when she was a child from her Father's lady friend. It's got about 112 pearls on it ranging from small, medium and medium large. They are a light pink and every single one is real. Anyone know about how much it might be worth? I don't have money to see how much it is worth. So I am super curious about what they might be worth. Thanks ahead of time.

A pearl necklace over 100 yrs old, is a family heirloom, be careful..for I wouldn't sell it. Depending on where /when it was first made, maybe a rare pearl, where not too many places they are located . Certain pearls become more $$, the more rare, more $$, alot of pearls are now harvested, certain specialists know where they come from , what region & time.. Defintely check with someone who specializes in pearls, they would be able to tell you that. I know Mikimoto pearls are worth in the 1,000.00..so check with specialists..1st.. do not sell it, if it is truly 100+ years old.. Good luck in finding its worth.. .

Question: How to clean a copper/pearl necklace without damaging pearl?
I own a necklace which has the particular problem of being made with both copper and pearl. The design consists of a copper-casted imitation of a grooved scallop shell, with a small freshwater pearl inlaid, along with a rather intricate chain. I am looking for a solution which would help me remove the oxidation from the copper thoroughly from all fine details, without damaging the pearl. All of the solutions that I've searched on the internet said to put it into some acidic substance like salad dressing or Worcestshire sauce, but acids damage pearls. Does anyone else have an alternative?

Answer: Take it to a jewelry store and have them use an ultrasonic ...
Take it to a jewelry store and have them use an ultrasonic cleaner. The copper shouldn't be green after that since it is usually surface oxidation. If you are really unsatified after that you can try barkeepers friend and a small SOFT toothbrush on the copper. Make sure to wet the pearls first to reduce the acidity level on them

Question: Where is the best place in Canada to sell pearl necklace?
I got those two necklace from Suzhou, China, one is made of 70mm dia, white baroque pearls (fresh water ones), evaluated at about 1200USD, the other is made of 90mm to 100mm dia, white round pearls, evaluated at between 5k and 7kUSD... I have tried around my place, but there is little market for those expensive ones, so would like some other suggestions (I am living in Quebec province, but can go almost anywhere excepted the US... Don't want to pay more taxes on those...) Ebay is for cheap stuff, those pearls need to been seen in person to be sold, as they need to try seeing the defects in the pearls (which of course, also work to proved that they don't have ANY).

at any fine jewelry store, I suggest Mikey (pronounced Mickey, like mickey mouse from disney) Moto, it is of the finest brands of pearls, and I would also ask the jeweler about the luster of the pearls and what grade they are, I recommend doing research on grades of pearls, and any other information that you can find about pearls to make sure that you are really getting your money's worth and that the pearls are in the condition and type that you are looking for. Also expect that the prices are high, (becasue most are) and also research that to make sure you are not getting ripped off Best of Luck<3

Question: I found a pearl necklace and earrings. The brand is Kyoko Shell Pears, anybody tell me anything about them?

Answer: I am not familiar with this particular brand, but the name ...
I am not familiar with this particular brand, but the name leads me to believe the pearls are faux. Shell pearls are faux pearls created from ground mollusk shell. They tend to look perfect but they are not genuine. If the pearls are indeed 50 to 60 years old AND genuine, they would be akoya cultured pearls. There is a simple way to tell if they are genuine and from the 1950s. During this time only Japan was producing pearls and nearly every strand was graduated from around 3 mm near the clasp to approximately 7 mm in the center. The graduation is very strong and immediately noticeable. If there is no graduation it would be another indication the pearls are fake. Post a picture of them on Pearl-Guide.com's community forum and you will receive immediate feedback and a definitive answer, http://www.pearl-guide.com/forum .

okay, scratch the pearls on your teeth. if they have a grainy/scratchy texture, they are real. if they feel smooth then the are fake. im not sure if that's true, friend told me, but it's worth a try! =] XOXO<33

Answer: Want to know if you've got the real thing? Rub the ...
Want to know if you've got the real thing? Rub the strand across the front of your upper teeth. It may sound strange, but according to Learn2.com, real pearls will feel rough or gritty while fake ones will feel smooth. This is due to the micropores found on the genuine article. Imitation pearls are usually made by dipping a glass or plastic bead into a solution of fish scales. The coating is generally fairly thin and will chip over time. Check the pearls for tiny chips or flakes near the hole drilled through them. If you see chips, chances are your pearls are fake. Try holding the pearls in your hand for a minute. HowToEverything.com states that real pearls will feel cold initially, then will warm. Real pearls can be either natural or cultured. Natural pearls are formed when a mollusk secretes a substance called nacre to coat an irritant that makes its way inside the animal's shell. Cultured pearls are formed with a little human help -- an irritant is purposely introduced into the shell of the animal. You usually need an x-ray or an expert to distinguish between natural and cultured pearls

Answer: Rub a pearl against your teeth - if it feels abrasive then ...
Rub a pearl against your teeth - if it feels abrasive then it's probably real as the plates of silicas will grate on your tooth enamal. Some clever fakes from asia are coated in silica so also look for any chipping around the drill hole. The string should be silk and knotted in between pearls to stop them rubbing together. Alternatively, take them to a jeweler and ask :) Pearls grow more lustrous from being worn so if they're real wear them as much as possible.

Answer: Just building on what Amber N said, if your pearls are real, ...
Just building on what Amber N said, if your pearls are real, they are probably cultured. Natural pearls are usually irregularly shaped and not very attractive, so the naturally round pearls are worth alot of money. The vast majority of perfectly shaped pearls are cultured.
