Fake! They look better than the real ones, sometimes. Besides, I'd rather be wearing a worthless, cheap peice of string tied in a knot aroundwrist bybff from camp than a brand-name bracelet. Sometimes the average piece of junk is far more valuable to us than all the diamond-encrusted necklaces in the world.

Yeah, I've gotten some really cheap ass jewelry inday. I'm always very appreciative when I receive it and I always act happy...but if you don't have the money to buy a quality piece get something else! I'm not looking for Tiffany, but I want something original--not a plain silver necklace or some plastic thing from Claire's. I personally love jewelry from antique shops. It's a ton cheaper than traditional stores and it's almost always unique and original. If I was going to give advise I'd tell someone without a lot of cash to go to an antique store. Just today I saw some Opal sets for under $100. I would hate getting some plain 'ol thing from Macy's--they're all the same and every girl with a cheap-o has one. My jewelry should be like me--one of a kind.

Question: how can I distinguish fake gold jewelry from real gold jewelry?

Answer: fake gold usually tarnishes and is lackluster and ...
fake gold usually tarnishes and is lackluster and dull. and if you wear fake cold it can sometimes leave a green mark on your skin

Answer: If it is a jewelry piece it will have some sort of mark as ...
If it is a jewelry piece it will have some sort of mark as to its karat value (purity) and if it is plated or solid. If it is marked with a number followed by a "k" with no letters after, it is assumed to be a solid gold alloy, unless the number is 24 which is pure gold. Most jewelry is not solid 24 k as the metal is too soft and will easily damage. Always buy your gold from a reputable jeweler to assure you are getting exactly what you are paying for. Most will inspect a gold item and tell you what the markings mean. The same is true when buying coins, reputable dealers will back your purchase. There are some frauds selling reissued and just plain fake coins. Professional coin gradings are done by only a few companies so a graded coin is usually your best bet. Gold bullion has markings from the maker and are not easily faked. Common bullion denominations can easily be checked for size and weight. Gold nuggets are almost never pure 24 k. Usually the purest run about 22 k. A simple scratch test will reveal a fake or plated nugget. There are various test kits on the market including a non-destructive gold testing pen which will verify surface gold purity. There are also acid type tests which will quickly reveal "fake gold".

Question: How do you determine a real cameo from a fake? (Cameo is a type of jewelry)?
My wife found a beautiful cameo at an antique store that she wants to buy. I don't mind buying her something nice but I'm the type of person who will get super mad if I find out that it was a fake.

Answer: Real cameos are carved from a single piece of stone, and ...
Real cameos are carved from a single piece of stone, and fakes have a carving glued onto a base. It can be very hard to tell with the naked eye, so if you have any doubts a jeweler should check it out.
