Question: Is there anyway to change my gold ring into a silver color?

Here is the thing.. I'm not a big fan of gold jewelry. It just looks tacky when I wear it :/ BUT my boyfriend bought me a gold ring...I was wondering if there was any way to make it a silver color? It does have gemstones on it and if there's no way of doing this then I'm perfectly happy keeping it the way it is...after all it's the thought that counts right? Thanks to everyone who has answered so far... and if I ever did change it I would def. make sure it was alright with him. The thing is I haven't actually handled the ring yet..he just sent me a picture. He is 200 miles away and just got it for me this past weekend. Actually, your question is one that I have dealt with in the past. You will need to speak to your jeweler, but you might want to ask about rhodium plating your mounting first, to see if that helps. White gold is usually rhodium plated so if she is allergic to white gold, then rhodium may not be the answer either. You may need to actually remount the ring in platinum. Or consider 18K gold, which has less alloy in it. Your jeweler can explain the difference to you.

This is a wedding band. It is either 9K, 10 K,14K or 18K gold. Those are hallmarks inside--more than what we have in the states, so I think it may be European-UK or Canada. If you rub a pencil eraser across them, you should be able to see the marks more clearly with a magnifying glass. You are looking for the above numerals or something like 585 for 14K or 750 for 18K. Its a modern band, and has practically no wear on the outside so it's fairly recent, I suspect. It would be nice if you could find the owner.
