Question: Can a yellow gold ring be converted to white gold?
There is a ring that I am in love with, that I was given, but its yellow gold and I prefer white gold. Is it possible to get it coated or something? If so, how much would it cost?

Yes you can get it dipped. I have no idea of the cost but go to a good jeweler to have it done.

Answer: Yellow gold is an alloy of gold and copper, white gold is an ...
Yellow gold is an alloy of gold and copper, white gold is an alloy of gold, and a silverish metal, like nickel, or palladium. So you can't convert a yellow gold ring to white gold. Plating may be an option. (I'm a metallurgist, not a jeweler, so you'll have to ask them, but we plate aircraft engines parts all the time) I'd say your best bet would be Rhodium, Platinum, or Palladium plating. Just take it to a jeweler and ask if it can be Rhodium, Platinum, or Palladium plated... (all are precious noble metals that won't tarnish) it should look just like white gold after that. You might have to have it redone every couple of years though, as thin coatings can get scratched. Not sure how much they'd charge for it.

Question: Is it true the stone on white gold ring gets loose easily?
I have a white gold ring. After having it for 3 months, one day I found I could move the dimand around. It didn't come out but obviously loose. I sent it back to the shop to fix. They told me this is the problem with white gold. Now again it got loose only after a few days I got it back. How can this be happening??? I am not going to wear my ring with this condition. Can anyone tell me if this is how it supposes to be? I just think the store should do something to ensure the stone stays where it is.

Answer: I have 2 white gold rings w/diamonds and I've never had ...
I have 2 white gold rings w/diamonds and I've never had that problem. I've had them almost 7 years. It could depend on the style of the setting, or it could be the store where you bought it is just not tightening the setting enough. Try taking it to another jewelry shop. A lot of places won't even charge you to tighten up the setting.

Answer: No offense but if your ring is really white gold the setting ...
No offense but if your ring is really white gold the setting should not be moving at all if it's brand new unless the prongs are extremely thin. Now If there is a possibility that your ring is Platinum instead of white gold then yes it will loosen because Platinum is heavier but is a softer metal than gold. So be careful.

Answer: well I have a white gold necklace and the diamonds ...
well I have a white gold necklace and the diamonds haven't loosened up or anything, and I wear it everyday, I have had it for 3 1'2 years...ask them to do something about it because your afraid to lose it, or go to a different jeweler.

Question: Gold ring is hallmarked but it also reads DIA on the other side?
I have a 9ct gold ring with stones, some are rubies. I can read the hallmarking that's ok, but there is also a marking which reads DIA on the opposite side of the rings shank. Would this suggest that the other stones are diamonds?

9 K itself is unusual. Commonly, women's rings are 14K. Your best bet would be to take it to a reputable jeweler for I.D.

Answer: There should not be a marking of DIA for diamonds -- the ...
There should not be a marking of DIA for diamonds -- the hallmarks usually have to do with the manufacturer, the year, and often in years past the family who commissioned the piece to be made. I would ask a jeweler what that means. I have a ring that is 125 years old and has four hallmarks, which provides the proof of when the ring was made, who made it and what family commissioned and owned it as well as the year it was made. Good providence. Also 9K just means it is an international gold standard not the US which is usually 10, or 14 K

Question: How much are sizing beads on a gold ring ?
Just trying to find out how much it might cost to get sizing beads installed on a gold ring before I head down to the jewellers.

Answer: They sell those clear silicon plastic ring sizers for like ...
They sell those clear silicon plastic ring sizers for like 2.99 at Wal Mart and Claire's. (those are pretty good and comfortable, actually, since they are soft plastic. But they are only good for thinner rings and bands, most men's wedding rings and class rings won't fit.) Metal ring guards can be anywhere from $10 to $50, depends on the material. But if you go back to the place where you got it from, most of them will size your ring either for free or little cost.
