Hi there, It depends on how thick and how short the necklace is. I have been wearing mine all the time for years now, in the shower, on the bed.... Mine is light and thin with a small pendant, not too short so I don't feel anything. The necklace is 18K, every year, when the gold got a bit darker colour and less shiny, I just brought it to a jewellery shop and paid about $5.00 and they made it shiny like brand new one. It sounds like it would be doable. I think jewlers can do almost anything. I'm sure if you take it to a jewler they will be able to show you what is possible. My advice is to take it to a local professional jewler not to a chain jewlery store at the mall. They will probably have to send it away. A local jewler should be able to do the work on premise. Jewelry cleaner and if you want to spend a couple of extra bucks for a polishing cloth works great. Also, many jewelers will clean your jewelry free of charge while you browse their store.
