I want to buy a gold necklace. However, I go to the jewelery store and it's like $1000 for a 14k gold necklace. It's really shiny though, are the $50 ones out there just as shiny? Why are some sold at $50 while others at $1000? How will people distinguish between something that costs real money versus some $50 rip off?

The price of gold is escalating rapidly, but gold jewelry is usually priced far higher that the price of the amount of gold in it. Gold price right now is $795.50/troy ounce. Tomorrow it will be higher.

1. If you want value for money- dont buy anything below 22K Gold. less than that - would not have a value if you want to sell it off later. And so its called - Real gold..
2. Ensure that when you buy gold you get a certificate- Gold
. card witht he purchase which makes sure that its pure and that you can sell it anywhere in the world. It also certifies that you'd get a good price for it.
3. If your concern is gold with a good design - only then buy gold from a good designer boutique. Otherwise you might be spending a lot on the design than the gold.
4. to be able to check that what you spent is real gold you could cross check with a goldsmith once u have selected. check the reputation of the shop where you buy from.
5. If you arent keen on buying 22+K gold then you should go to any good designer necklace boutique and pick up a good design. But make sure you dont spend a lot more than its (gold) actually worth.
So its first that you need to determine a budget and decide what you want to buy - a good design or real gold.
Gold prices fluctuate - you cant know beforehand if it going to go down. And as of now - its only increasing. I would suggest not to buy real gold online. Its likely to be a cheat whatsoever.
