Answer: Real gold Jewelry will have a marking on it somwhere telling ...
Real gold Jewelry will have a marking on it somwhere telling you exactly how many KTs are in the jewelry if it is real. If you don't find any Kt markings then it is fake or gold plated!! Gold Know your karats* Look for the karat mark, which will tell you that the piece is real gold and the percentage of pure gold it contains. Pure gold, or 24K, is rarely used because it is soft and easily damaged. Instead gold is alloyed with other metals, such as copper, silver, nickel and zinc, to give it strength and durability. Different proportions of these alloys also give gold its rose, green, or white coloration. 18K gold is 75% gold; 14K is 58.5%; and 10K is 41.6%. The higher the karatage, the richer the color will be--and the more costly. In the U.S. jewelry must be at least 10K to be legally sold as real gold. (In Canada and Mexico, the minimum legal standard of karatage is 9K and 8K respectively.) Imported gold jewelry may be stamped with different numbers. For example, the European markings for 14 karat gold jewelry is 585; for 18K is 750. Look for the trademark On karat-marked jewelry sold in the U.S., always look for the manufacturer's trademark. By U.S. law it must be there. When there's a hallmark, it means the manufacturer stands behind the accuracy of the karat mark. You may also find the country of origin marked. Evaluating price In addition to karat weight, the price of gold jewelry is determined by several factors: total weight; design and construction; and ornamental detailing, such as engraving or Florentine finish. Although nearly all gold jewelry today is made with the help of special machines, some handwork is always involved. The more there is, the higher the price. The good news is that through modern manufacturing technology, large, lightweight, and exciting pieces can be surprisingly affordable. Check the clasp When buying a gold necklace or bracelet, make sure you examine the clasp to see if it is strong enough to support the chain, especially if the piece does not have a hallmark. Run your hand over the chain and look for any rough edges. A well-made piece of gold jewelry should look and feel like the quality piece it is. And if you take the time to look it over, you will have a piece that with good care can last a lifetime. * Don't be confused with "carats," the weight measure used for diamonds and other gems.

Question: How do I prevent fake gold from turning my skin green?
There is a gold medallion necklace that will be essential to my costume on Halloween. Unfortunately, it is not available in real gold and I'm going to have to wear the fake stuff. I'll probably buy a different chain that I don't have to worry about, but the medallion will still be a problem. Does anyone know how I can prevent it from turning my skin green as I'm sure I'll be sweating quite a bit on Halloween? I thought about spraying it with clear enamel? Any other ideas?

Some people have sweat that just naturally speeds up the "green" thing. We had that problem in our family. We had to gold-plate anything we really wanted to wear. Thing is, it really didn't cost that much to do. It's a very thin coat of gold. But we also had some success with nail polish. It wears off really fast though. If you can keep the medallion from turning backwards, I suggest you get some self-stick felt from Wallysmart or someplace and make a backing for it.

Question: how do I tell real gold jewellery from fake jewellery?

Answer: Real gold would be stamped, incised, either 14K 10k 18k or ...
Real gold would be stamped, incised, either 14K 10k 18k or whatever perecent of gold it contains. 18k is 100% gold conten, 14k has some other metals in it, and 10k has a lot more other metals, usualy nickle added. The higher the gold content, the more gold it contains and the more expensive, also the softer and less durable the piece will be as gold is very mallable (soft). 10K would be the most durable, hardest and would be best for jewelry that takes a lot of abuse, like say a mans wedding band. Whatever it is though, real gold is stamped with it's K weight.

If you are wearing face makeup/foundation/powder you can rub the jewelry across your cheek and if there is a black or greenish line where you rubbed the jewelry on you it is real. This is a whole lot faster than any other method other than looking to see if it is stamped 10Kt, 14Kt, etc....... I have purchased jewelry stamped and later found out it was fake. I bought it at a flea market and thank goodness it was cheap or I would have been upset.

Don't trust marks they are only a guide. It is best to judge the shop you are buying from. If it has been going 10 years or more and has invested a lot in rent and shopfitting then if they say its gold it probably is. Only works for Western countries unfortunately. The only way to prove it 100% is to get it assayed or assessed by a professional.

yea gold bends. in the old days people bit gold coins to check if they were real. there were even big coins that ppl bit parts off when paying for stuff. its better not to get a solid gold anything cuz it breaks too easy. its best to get an alloy that has mostly gold but a little of something else to keep it sturdy. hope that helps, atleast ill have one best answer, lol

Answer: Hey Guill, your a gem yourself!!!!!!! Gold is a soft ...
Hey Guill, your a gem yourself!!!!!!! Gold is a soft material and is quite malleable-I can see you cranking up to ask another Q-"What does "malleable" mean?- Now for the slam dunk: GOLD DOES NOT RUST!!!!!!!. The reason you can't easily find 18 to 22 karat gold in the US is that most of us would over-work it; that is wear it down or scratch it, bend it or dent it. 14 karat gold is alloyed with stronger metals to give it strength. Crap, I've even seen 10 K gold being sold in Bermuda. Might as well be buying copper.

Answer: It's fake if it makes your finger turn green. The ...
It's fake if it makes your finger turn green. The higher the karat (this is the correct spelling) the softer the gold. SO, if you have a 14 karat (14K) ring or higher, it will bend. If you want to be certain, take it to a reputable jeweler.

Answer: Real gold is soft, so it might be real. Go to a jewler for ...
Real gold is soft, so it might be real. Go to a jewler for sure, but it probably is. It's quiet esiy to bend real and pure gold.
