Answer: There are different qualities of gold that is used in ...
There are different qualities of gold that is used in jewelry. Plated or filled is the least expensive, but it's also not real gold. It's gold over another metal, sometimes silver. The disadvantages of plating/filled is that you can't resize the ring, or repair any damage to it. Also keep in mind that gold plating will wear off with time and your jewelry may need to be re-plated, which is very expensive sometimes. 10K is the least amount of pure gold. It's the hardest because there is more metal (copper or nickle usually) added in the alloy. 14K is the most common gold you will find. It's fairly hard, and it stands up well over time to dents and dings. 18K is softer and more expensive, but it's a more pure gold. 22K is almost pure gold, it is very soft and very expensive. 24K is pure gold. It's the most expensive gold out there, and the most easily damaged. It's not recommended for rings due to how much you use your hands. When shopping for the ring, look at the inside of the band. It will say 10K, 14K, 18K etc... if it's real gold. Sometimes KT is used instead of K, but the number remain the same. If it is a European ring, or from another country besides the US, sometimes you will see the percentage of gold in a number. Example: 18K gold is 18/24 pure, so it's 0.75% pure. The ring will say .750 or 750. The higher the number, the more pure the gold. The color will be more brilliant, but it will also be a softer and weaker metal. The lower the number, the more durable the metal. But the color will not be as pure, or as valuable.

Answer: The cheapest ones are the ones "plated" with gold ...
The cheapest ones are the ones "plated" with gold that means the jewelry itself is not gold but something else like silver. And if something is solid gold, there is different karats, the cheapest karat should be 10K, then 14K, 18K, 22K and the top notch is 24K, so that would be the most expensive.
