Jewelry Soup: How To Know Whether Gold Jewelry Is Fake Or Real?

fake gold usually tarnishes and is lackluster and dull. and if you wear fake cold it can sometimes leave a green mark on your skin

Answer: If it is a jewelry piece it will have some sort of mark as ...
If it is a jewelry piece it will have some sort of mark as to its karat value (purity) and if it is plated or solid. If it is marked with a number followed by a "k" with no letters after, it is assumed to be a solid gold alloy, unless the number is 24 which is pure gold. Most jewelry is not solid 24 k as the metal is too soft and will easily damage. Always buy your gold from a reputable jeweler to assure you are getting exactly what you are paying for. Most will inspect a gold item and tell you what the markings mean. The same is true when buying coins, reputable dealers will back your purchase. There are some frauds selling reissued and just plain fake coins. Professional coin gradings are done by only a few companies so a graded coin is usually your best bet. Gold bullion has markings from the maker and are not easily faked. Common bullion denominations can easily be checked for size and weight. Gold nuggets are almost never pure 24 k. Usually the purest run about 22 k. A simple scratch test will reveal a fake or plated nugget. There are various test kits on the market including a non-destructive gold testing pen which will verify surface gold purity. There are also acid type tests which will quickly reveal "fake gold".

Question: Does "14K EMA" mean my gold is fake, filled, or plated???
Hello! I recently purchased a second hand ruby ring. I noticed when I got home the inside of the band read "14K EMA." I was told it was solid 14K gold. I have also heard that if there are 3 letters following the karat mark, then it stands for something, and usually something meaning plated, filled, hollow, etc. Does anyone know what the EMA means? I have to know before I return it so I can state my case if it's not solid gold. Otherwise they will just give me a credit, and not a full refund. Can anyone tell me what EMA means? Please? I only have 5 days left to return it!

just get sterling silver...it's not that expensive...and of course will last longer.

Answer: "Silver has a lustrous white color but needs polishing ...
"Silver has a lustrous white color but needs polishing occasionally because silver reacts with sulfur in the air to cause tarnishing..." so I still apply a separation film is a best and easy way to stop tarnish.Or,u don't do precaution but take it to jeweler to re-polish it regularly.

Question: Do real or fake Louis Vuitton bags have the brass/gold feet on the bottom?
My mom bought me a Louis Vuitton bag (looks like the Cabas Mezzo - sorry for sp mistakes!) from a neighbor who was selling some of her Louis's. It looks real, but I'm not sure. The main thing, is it has brass or gold feet on the bottom, so when you set it down, the bag itself doesn't touch the ground. I would think this would mean it's real, but every picture I see of the bottom of similar bags, they don't have the feet. It also has a stamp inside that says "Louis Vuitton (with the "r" restricted symbol) Paris, Made in France." All the monograms line up and everything. Anyone have any ideas on whether it's fake or not? I really don't care either way for myself, but she has some other bags, and I might buy them and put them up on ebay - and I don't want to get sued or something for saying it's authentic if it's not.... Thanks!

Question: I mixed my white gold ring with a fake silver ring. does it affect the quality of my white gold ring?
does my white gold ring becomes fake too? what I mean by mixed is that I store them together in one box or wear them in the same finger.

Answer: What do mean bye mixed? You melted it? If you did melt it ...
What do mean bye mixed? You melted it? If you did melt it then it would just have less gold in it by ratio. If you melted it with nickel ,lead, or copper it is still gold but those kind of metals corrode easily. You would have to clean it more often. Some people are allergic to those three and it would be worthless to them if they did that.

Answer: nothing can turn real gold into fake gold. Storing ...
nothing can turn real gold into fake gold. Storing different items together is fine. The only damage that can be done, and it takes a while to do it, is if the items rub together too much by moving them around alot. This will only wear down the softer items but will not effect the gold purity content of the ring.
