Well, gold is usually soft and pliable, so if it's a bangle, you can easily bend it. Also In the US it is required that every precious item be marked. BTW, 375 means 9carat gold. (37.5% gold)

if they are from another country then they wont necessarily be marked. but take it along to a jewellers or auction house and they can test it for you

only if you want to know if they are realy gold, they are marked 18k in US or 750 in europe (for fourteen karat gold of corase) they realy don't make too much 10k in europe but they do here in usa, they make some 14k in Europe but I forget what its marked

Answer: In England, gold is either 9 carat, 18 carat or 22 carat and ...
In England, gold is either 9 carat, 18 carat or 22 carat and has to have a hall-mark. In the case of gold charms and bracelets, they should all be individually hall-marked. Gold jewellery bought abroad does not necessarily have a hall-mark but if you take it to a jewellers, for a small fee, they will test it and tell you the approximate english carat. In USA, their carats are of a different grading, I have a gold and amethyst ring which is 15kt Black Dakota Hills gold and has been assessed as the equivalent to 18 carat English gold.

Answer: Many of the old charms will not carry a hallmark or makers ...
Many of the old charms will not carry a hallmark or makers mark but that should never discourage you from collecting. The same is true of vintage sterling charms, a mistake all beginning collectors (myself included) usually make. How the quality of gold is rated depends on the age and country of origin, as well as (surprisingly) the size. Until recently (1950's) small objects - under 10 grams in the USA (such as charms) didn't need to be hallmarked, and that is still the case in many other countries. I have found that the best answer for me is to test them - I use an electronic tester that will detect gold plate - but a cheap and easy version is an acid test kit, available at jewelry sites and on eBay. In America gold tends to be 10K (if you see 12K it is probably GF- gold filled which means only 1/20th of the weight of the charm is 12K gold) 14K 18K if it tests 20 or higher it is probably plated. In other countries they use the numeral system, if any 9K is 375 (375 out of 1000 parts are gold - this is a strong and usually warm colored gold, especially popular in the United Kingdom - do not send to Israel where they reject anything under 14K) 14K = 585 18K =750 many older pieces will be 20-24K, easy to see with a strong fingernail. Remember also there are many colors of gold depending on the alloy used - think of the Cartier 3 color gold rings. In Victorian times rose gold and green gold were popular, white gold looks alot like old sterling or platinum, and yellow gold changes depending on the karat. Vintage charms have so much more value from workmanship than the intrinsic monetary price of the small amount of precious metal involved, consider that enamel has no worth at all by itself - but how it changes the value of an object with it's beauty! After testing for long enough you may be able to tell by color, feel and weight, but really the only thing that matters is that you love the charm and are happy with the price you paid.

I have a gold colored bracelet and on the clasp is stamped "14 KM" I have no idea what this means. Is my bracelet real gold, fake, or some other metal all together? If someone knows please let me know.

Measure your bracelet. If it's 14 kilometers long, problem solved (though the problem still remains as to how you're going to wear it). It it is shorter than 14 kilometers, I'd return it to the store and write a condescending letter to the manufacturer.

Answer: all metal will discolour, gold wont discolour as rapidly as ...
all metal will discolour, gold wont discolour as rapidly as silver, but you can clean them very easily with silver or gold cleaning products, jsut follow the instructions given to you in the box.

Answer: It wont' discolor but with much time and a lot of wear, ...
It wont' discolor but with much time and a lot of wear, the gold layer can wear off in places. However, you should get years of enjoyment out of it. I, personally, would rather spend more and get solid gold rather than plated jewelry; that way, it's a lifetime investment.

Answer: Providing the gold layer is of a sufficient thickness there ...
Providing the gold layer is of a sufficient thickness there should not be a problem for years with discolouration which is caused by the silver atoms diffusing with the gold atoms. However, if the bracelet is subject to constant friction between the clothing or other jewellery the gold plating could start to break down and rub off, but if it is of a good quality this should not happen for years.

Answer: have you checked the website to see if there is any feedback ...
have you checked the website to see if there is any feedback for your product? I don't think it will discolour, but I guess over many many years the plating will get thin, but this will be many years ahead. I would just enjoy it, but if you are concerned, they have a very good returns policy.

Answer: Depends on how thick the gold plating is. It will probably ...
Depends on how thick the gold plating is. It will probably take quite a few years to wear off. Put the bracelet on after you have sprayed any perfume on and let it dry first. Don't put soap or lotions on it as well. No hairspray either. Hope that this helps.

Answer: If it is rhodium plated it will be fine just dont do too ...
If it is rhodium plated it will be fine just dont do too much heavy work in it, do not wear lots of bracelets together as they rub the surface off each other and rinse it in lukewarm water every now and again.

Answer: Gold is about the only metal that will not oxidize. ...
Gold is about the only metal that will not oxidize. That's why it's so durable. However, plating (whatever the K) means the layer is super thin and will eventually wear through. I agree with tp above with care.
