Welcome to JewelrySoupJewelry Soup: Engagement Rings, GIA Grading Report, Clean Diamond And White Gold Engagement Rings Question: My Engagement ring is rated as VVS1 - but I see inclusions - HELP!?
I was recently given a 1.66 carat princess cut diamond ring. On the GIA Grading report, it states it as VVS1 which is:
"Very, Very Slightly Included: Very difficult to see inclusions under 10x magnification."
My problem is that I can visibly see tiny 'cloudy' inclusions with my naked eye, let alone 10x magnification!
Can diamonds develop inclusions over time?
And is there any way to cross reference the actual diamond to the GIA report?
Thank you so much! I'm very new to all of this but I want to make sure my fiancé didn't get taken advantage of!
Thank you both for your answers!Answer: "And is there any way to cross reference the actual ...
"And is there any way to cross reference the actual diamond to the GIA report?"
yes, you can check the girdle to make sure the diamond you have is the same one as the report. You'll need a microscope to see the GIA number which should be lasered onto the girdle.Answer: When we boughtdiamond it came with the report and it had ...
When we boughtdiamond it came with the report and it had a serial number on the diamond to cross reference and to provide something to check if it was ever stolen or lost.
We were also allowed to examine it under the microscope before we agreed to buy it.
If you have concerns about your diamond. I'd take it and the report back to the store where it was purchased and ask them to verify that you have the correct diamond.
I've never heard of cut and faceted diamonds developing inclusions after the fact and could find no information as if it's true or not.Answer: You might want to get it appraised. It will cost about $45 ...
You might want to get it appraised. It will cost about $45 or so but will come with an honest appraisal if done by a GIAA grader.Question: Best engagement rings for best value?
It's that time for me to propose to my love, I want to buy her a quality engagement ring at a reasonable price. I have heard buying the name brands (Debeers, Tiffany and Co, Harry Winston) is just to brag, is that true or are their diamonds truly better. I want to be smart with my purchase, but I also want a quality diamond. It will be apart of my wife forever so I dont want something cheap? I live in San Diego, but am considering shopping in LA/Beverly Hills as well? Any ideas for something in the middle of classy, yet affordable?Answer: If you have an ashcroft and oak I would highly recommend ...
If you have an ashcroft and oak I would highly recommend them. I got a 9 diamond cocktail ring for myself for $300 (normally $850) because they always have great sales and high quality. the best part is you bring your ring in every 6 months for a quality inspection, they'll replace any diamond that ever falls off, and the quality of their rings is outstanding. if you don't have one near you definitely check out their websiteAnswer: Before you go, do two things:

try the jewelry factory. they sell at wholesale cost and have amazing products. if you decide to go with a retailer such as Kay jeweler- never pay the sticker price. there is always room to negotitate! congratulationsAnswer: In regards to your question, if you know what to look for ...
In regards to your question, if you know what to look for and you are working with a jeweler that truly offers high quality stones and workmanship, you should be able to find pieces just as beautiful as Debeers, (I was a sales associate there and helped launch the beverly hills store before I startedown business), Tiffany's, Harry Winston, etc but at a fair cost. I know many people have told you to try this or that. However, you need to understand, that the luxury retail chains charge exorbitant prices for very beautiful pieces. Most stores honestly might only carry a few diamonds at that quality, versus all of the inventory are at that level in the luxury chains. Hence you pay a price for that. The reason that most stores don't carry such top quality has to do with price. In all honesty, if normal stores want to stay competetive and turn a profit, they tend to like to sell commercial goods because it nets a larger margin. Most people don't know that staying competetive and offering the best stones nets little profit especially on top quality diamonds, unless you're charging above what normal consumers think prices should be at based on the advertising of commercial goods. Also, the workmanship at most places is only mediocre at most, with a few lone standing stores that ask for that quality of work for their inventory. However, it is very possible for you to find very beautiful diamonds that are reasonably priced if you know what you are looking for, or if you are working with someone that is passionate about working with the best. I would suggest you educate yourself first. I highly recommend GIA's self tutorial on the basics of diamond grading. Here is the link.

If this doesn't work, go to www.gia.edu and look on the right column, it will have a small rectangle that says how to buy a diamond....tutorial. Just click on it.

Best of luck!Question: Engagement ring off EBAY??
Hello, my boyfriend and I have started to look at Engagement rings, and after going to a bunch of Jewelers a had a friend suggest looking on ebay. In the Jewelry strores the ring I like is outrageous, but I have found numerous comparable rings for a a lot cheaper on EBAY. These sellers have thousands of positive feedback and basically no negative feedback. With that many transactions, and that many positive feedbacks you would think it wouldn't be a scam right? I am just curious if anyone has ever got jewelry off of ebay. The rings I am interested come from these little jewelry stores and come with a gurantee and what not, but should I still be worried?Answer: I would have it put in Escrow to make sure before you pay ...

I just got engaged a month ago and I chose my ring. It is 1/2carat total weight. It has a .375 carat certified colorless center stone princess cut. it has side diamonds 6 on each side, it is so delicate looking and beautiful! it cost 1500 I loved it until everyone kept asking to see it. When I show it to people their first words are " it's cute" I cant stand people saying my ring is cute, I want people to say its gorgeous! Now I am thinking I wanta bigget diamond! what do I do. honey, heres the thing. while a giant ring is a nice bonus, its the thought behind the ring that counts. he already shelled out a decent amount on it, asking for a new one makes you sound kind of greedy. im really not trying to be rude, but it really makes it sound like you just want a bigger ring. I get toldring is cute too, but it doesnt bother me because it reminds me that I have a man who loves me very much. compliments are just a nice bonus.
plus heres one thing I learned. one time a friend of mine calledring cute. then later I accidentally overheard her talking to someone on the phone and she was bitching about being jelous that I got engaged before her. so honestly them calling your ring cute may actually be a bit of jelously.
please try to remember. your fiance loves you, and THATS what counts, not the compliments other people give you on your ringAnswer: exactly, if you like it and you chose it..

Your engagement ring isn't meant to impress others, it's a symbol of your commitment to your soon to be hubby. If you love it and you love him then that's all that matters. Who cares what other people are thinking/saying, wait for the "gorgeous" comments to be about YOU on your wedding day, not just some silly ring!Answer: Sucks to be your fiancé.

People could also be calling it cute for other reasons. Perhaps jealousy. I myself have never seen a *cute* engagement ring even if it's small. That is just an odd word to use to describe that kind of ring.Answer: If you are so easily swayed by what other people think what ...
If you are so easily swayed by what other people think what will happen when someone says your man is OK, but they think you could do better, do you plan on trading him in too? Get over it, stop looking at this ring as a thing, and start looking at it as a symbol of his love and commitment to you. Perhaps someday when you two have been married for a few years he will be able to afford to buy you a bigger ring, hopefully by then you will have matured and will realize that the size is not what counts and tell him that he can get you something else because you aren't giving up this precious symbol of his love and devotion to you! I wish "him" luck, I think he may need it if you don't get over yourself quickly! |
