Question: Engagement rings, what to look for?
I hear the four c's: color, carat, clarity, and cost, is that right? Or is cut in there too? What are all the different catagories of color and cut? I know she wants something not gold, either white gold, silver or platinum, which one is the least expensive? What are the least expensive cuts?

i think if you really want to marry this girl then money shouldnt matter if thats what she wants but platinum is the cheapest out of the metals you listed i would go with something simple in white gold, just a good carat rating diamond

for an engadegement ring u shuld always get silver or white gold. gold doesnt look good. u shuld go for something classy and if its not expensive and looks good then get it

Answer: I think that if this is the woman you are going to spend the ...
I think that if this is the woman you are going to spend the rest of your life with cost shouldnt matter. Of course you need to have a budge, but a realistic one...you shouldnt be looking for the cheapest anything! I wouldn't want to get the cheapest ring from a guy that I am spendinglife with. Let her know just how much she means to you!

Answer: I don't think they set real diamonds in silver very ...
I don't think they set real diamonds in silver very often. White gold is much cheaper than platinum. So I would suggest you go with white gold. Then you would want a color grade of at least H to I because any lower than that it will have a yellowish tint. Then the clarity is also a consideration. A diamond that is clean to the eye would be around a VS1 or VS2. The price will mainly be a combination of the size, color grade, and clarity. http://www.brownleejewelers.com/diamondjewelryqualitychart.html

Answer: white gold is least expensive. My engagement ring was ...
white gold is least expensive. My engagement ring was titanium with a solitaire diamond. (Not super huge but excellent quality) but our wedding bands are white gold. go with white gold, looks the same as platinum. don't forget to get it appraised at the place you purchase to add to your homeowners insurance. Usually 3 months of pay is typical. We didn't go by this rule. or you can go for something Classic. check out an antique store. Less quality diamond but higher quality ring with lots of filigree (decoration). I guess you can always change out the diamond later. MAKE SURE YOU KNOW HER RING SIZE. SAVE you lots of time and money.

Answer: Color is the color of the diamond, there are different ...
Color is the color of the diamond, there are different grades of diamonds, some are better than others, wherever you get the ring at will be able to show you the difference, cut is the shape of the diamond. There is round, princess (square-very popular), marquis ( shaped kind of like this () ), emerald (rectangle), pear cut (tear drop), oval, and heart shaped (kind of cheesy if you ask me). Out of the metals you listed Platinum is the most expensive, but the most durable, white gold is a good choice, and very common, I am not sure you could actually get a silver band. I am not sure if there is much of a price difference on the specific cut of the diamond as far as shape, go to your local jewelry store and talk to them, tell them what your budget is and they can help you from there. Good luck!

Answer: There are different catagories for color. Color is rated D ...
There are different catagories for color. Color is rated D through X. DEF is colorless, GHIJ is near colorless, and the rest are faint yellow through light yellow. Ideally you would like to be in the DEF range for color (although a G is pretty colorless). There is a scale for clarity. Ideally, you want to ensure that there are minimal impurities. My engagement ring has a small fleck of carbon (that you don't even see without a magnifying glass). Don't worry if you find a diamond with a fleck of carbon, I actually enjoy mine because it's not perfect and it's unique to me since no one else hasfleck of carbon. There are different cuts. The princess (square) cut seems to be a more modern and popular cut than the round one. The cut is actually the most important thing about diamonds. If your diamond is cut well, then it will sparkle the most. A well cut G diamond will look better than a shotty cut D diamond. The actual cut doesn't cost you much, again, it depends on the carat of your diamond. If she doesn't like gold, white gold is a suitable choice. I recommend a 14 carat for the ring as 24 carat tends to be softer and more easily damaged. White gold is an exceptional option - it is essentially yellow gold with a plating on it. However, with the white gold, you do have to get it dipped every couple years as the plating will wear off and turn yellow. Platinum is most expensive. Silver is cheapest, but not the optimal choice. Here's a good reference: http://www.thediamondbuyingguide.com/ Congrats! Hopefully this helped! A lot of private jewelers have a ridiculously high markup - hence why most of them can afford to have perpetual 50% off sales. You might want to consider a major line of jewelers as they buy their diamonds in bulk and will save you more money. Definitely shop around, you'll find that the prices quoted on the same ring will vary by hundreds of dollars depending on the store. Stores also like to take advantage of men wanting to engage...

Umm, Lucy, it's time to fess up and tell him. Do you really want to start off your life together with a lie?

Answer: I'm only 19, so I don't exactly know much about ...
I'm only 19, so I don't exactly know much about marriage, but I know that if you lie and he eventually finds out (which he more than likely will sometime in his lifetime) he will be more upset you didn't tell him, than if you tell him right now. He shouldn't get too upset if it was an accident (I am almost positive you didn't lose it on purpose) But I don't know your husband so I can't say he wouldn't get too upset. I would say the best bet is if you lost it in your home, YOU CAN FIND IT. Just look reaaaaaaaally hard and you are bound to run into it, also would you be able to a get a ring in such a short notice? (wouldn't he notice you arent wearing your ring, until you find an replacement) If worse comes to worse I would just go buy the same exact ring... Best of luck to you.

I don't see this as a big deal and I know from experience that if you was to tell him now it will be more of a big deal (does that make sense?) Cubic Zirconia is similar to diamond but a lot cheaper and if he is worried with his dad and things he probably wont notice. I'm sure if you tell him once things are better and he will understand why you didn't tell him. Good Luck x

Buy a cubic zirconium....and after the issues with his father tell him the truth.....most of the time is can be covered on your home owners policy, or the jewelry store may have offered insurance....look in to it.... I am very sorry that your father in law is going to pass, our condolences. It is very unselfish of you to worry him about the ring, but girl, after things have settled down, you have gotta tell him.........he married you he loves you he will forgive you!!!

Question: Women would you be mad if your engagement ring was a man made diamond?
NOT a CZ!!! It is the same exact material keep in mind.... http://www.apollodiamond.com/ They have the same clarity, color, cut, reflective ability, weight, and durability. They are NOT similar to other diamonds. They ARE diamonds! Its just that one is grown underground and one is grown in a lab (now that we have the technology). The ONLY way to tell is for a jeweler to use an eyepiece to see the engraving. So ladies out there, would you mind?

i guess its the thought the count but getting a man made diamond takes away from the thrill of a diamond its not longer rare and precious and a gift from the earth (like its a gift from your heart, who wants a gift from the lab) personally I don't know if i'd care because its about what it symbolizes and only a very materialistic women would be unhappy with a man made diamond...

No, but take me with you and let me pick it out, I have to wear it with pride the rest oflife. I'd be sickened if you gave me a big gaudy 10K , it would tell me you were showing off for the whole world to see . Sorry!! No engagement no marriage!

Answer: I have been in a relationship where I had the big diamond. ...
I have been in a relationship where I had the big diamond. The relationsip ended and the diamond was not nearly worth what he paid for it. Now I have met someone incredible, and I see that the diamond is nothing when you have the man. I have propsed to this man we get a man made diamond, with a kitchen remodel. let's invest in ourselfs. You can get an amazing ring with gold for 500-1000. It is the man that counts, the relationshiop, not the perception we want to throw in people's faces.

yes I would be. but im a jeweler so. I guess some women wouldnt care. http://jewelrypurchase.blogspot.com/

Answer: Why would you buy a diamond ring then ? Ask what she thinks ...
Why would you buy a diamond ring then ? Ask what she thinks of it, women know what they want ! You know that already, hence your question here. It makes no sense to me at all. The diamond is used because it is a rare and precious object. That is a symbol for the seriousness of the proposal. Only the real thing underlines that statement well enough. If the budget is the issue, why not consider another gem that is natural and untreated ? Engraving ? The way to look at is is under UV light and observe the growth patterns ! Basically the real use for lab diamonds is in the industry so they can manufacture for example exactly calibrated sizes and specifications. The use in jewelry inopinion has no meaning and no long term value at all.

Question: Help?! Tiffany Setting Diamond Engagement ring?! Yes?! No?!?
Ok, so my boyfriend bought me a .39 diamond engagement ring in a platinum Tiffany setting. Picture here: http://www.tiffany.com/Engagement/Item.aspx?subCategoryid=1001 I always wanted a 1 karot emerand cut diamond ring with diamonds on the side, but right now neither of us have much money. My boyfriend got the Tiffany ring for $1,500, which is a great deal since it's currently worth $2,650 at the Tiffany store. I am still waiting for the ring to arrive & am unsure if I will like it since the setting looks fairly plain. My fiance says that I can return the ring and choose a different one if I want, but that means more money spent on a non-discounted ring. I want the ring to look nice without breaking his bank account, but I just don't know if the TIffany setting ring will cut it. Honestly, has anyone ever purchased this ring before & are you happy with it? Also, do you think that my diamond size is too small? Should we save up for a larger one later? Or go for the discount?

I think you are a very lucky lady - the ring you posted a link for is both beautiful and timeless....and a bargain! Many women would dream for a ring like that! I think the diamond is just right. Any bigger and it looks pretentious, any smaller and it may be too discreet for you. Ok its not 'out there' but surely "fairly plain" isn't a bad thing? This is a ring you will hopefully be wearing for the rest of your life, even when your 85 years old. It could end up a family heirloom. If you are set on the ring you had in your head by all means save up and look for another since this is an important purchase - but make sure you don't hurt your fiancé in the process!! Just wait for the original ring to arrive before deciding for sure though :) Good luck and congratulations on your engagement!

Yes, this ring is absolutely gorgeous! Justopinion though... My sister has a Tiffanys setting ring and she's had it for a few years now. Tiffanys is awesome for follow up, like if the diamond is ever damaged, needs to be cleaned, etc they will do it all for you with no charge. My best advice for your sake though, don't settle. If you don't love it then what's the point? The ring is a symbol of your commitment to each other and you will have to look at it every single day. If you can't afford it now, you can always upgrade later when finances are in better shape. Congrats and Good luck hun!

Question: What's the type of ring that's similar to an enhancer? It's opened up & the engagement ring fits in the center
I was at the jewelry store looking for a wedding band & bc of the type of engagement ring I have she suggested I get a certain type of band it's similar to an enhancer. You open it up and the engagement ring fits in between it. I forget what it's called something like "hang, drop end" I don't remember. Ring a Bell?
