If the band is gold, it will have a stamp on the inside of the band noting the karat of gold it is made of. If it's a real diamond, depending on the quality and where he got it, it will have a laser engraved serial number. Honestly though, just be happy you got a ring.

I don't want to burst your bubble, but men generally do not buy gold and diamond rings until they buy an engagement ring. If he didn't propose, then IMO it's safe to believe that it's a gold-plated cubic zirconium ring. I askedjeweler once if he could tell the difference between a zircon and a diamond, and he said they can't be distinguished by the naked eye. In either case, I think it's sweet that he got you something like a ring. Frankly, I think zircons are far more practical than diamonds.

It really depends on the quality of the diamond. Generally, I'd say it costs about $1500, but if he got a really high grade diamond it would be more. Also,ring is from Kay's and I didn't get one, but they have some sort of special diamond called a Leo diamond. For some reason those are really high quality and cost much more than the average stone. I think it's a very pretty ring. I actually got a .5 carat with smaller stones on either side when I got married at 20. I'm going on 2.5 years now, and me andhusband agreed I get a bigger one (yay!) when we have our 5 or 10 year anniversary. To be totally honest, I think it's great, and you shouldn't get too hung up on the cost. From experience I can tell you that starting out with your new hubby is harder (financially) than you're probably expecting it to be. You don't want to look down at your hand every time you're short on money and think about trading in your ring. Maybe you're not that type, but I know I did it a few times. Anyway, congratulations! Well, it's really hard to tell. There are many other factors, aside from the carat weight of the diamond. It depends on the quality of the cut and color in the diamond, as well. I bought a .74 ct diamond, 14 kt white gold ring for about 300, although the retail value was 1000. But I know of rings with a .5 ct weight that were worth much more than the one I bought. Just make sure you don't judge the person who got you this ring by its worth. You can't gauge love by money spent. It doesn't work that way, no matter how many people believe that (sadly far too many do). Heath

In terms of checking if its real or not, find a spare piece of GLASS if you can and place the diamond on the glass. Apply pressure onto it and push it along the glass (try to scratch the glass). not on the internet! used to work in a jewelers and some of the worst rings ever came in that were bought off the internet. go into a respectable jewelers and ask if one of the experienced workers (not all of them are) to show you/tell you about their diamond rings, they should be sucking up your bum and give you one to one consultation. be willing to pay for a good one though, if it's an engagement ring they say you should pay a month's wages-that obviously isn't a set rule though. and don't feel like you have to buy the first nice one you see, shop around as it's' a big purchase. usually the shop will let you put aside a ring (maybe with a small deposit) and so allow you to think about it and come back. also you should familiarise yourself with the four c's: colour, cut, clarity and carat, before going into a jewelers so they don't take you for a ride. here's a good link http://www.diamondsbyamj.co.uk/diamondrings/thefourcs.php hope this helps! and made sense!!

If it is super big for your hand you feel uncomfortable wearing something that perhaps may not 'suit' the look of your hand size, then talk to your fiance and be open with him. Assure him that you love it and think it's beautiful but kindly explain your feelings.
