Question: Diamond Ring?
I have a ring that has lots of small diamonds on it- I want to combine these little diamonds into one big diamond- how can I do this? Or can I ?

Answer: Combining a bunch of smaller diamonds to make one big ...
Combining a bunch of smaller diamonds to make one big diamond isn't going to work. Once a diamond is cut, it's cut. And see how your smaller diamonds are held together,...yah you would need those to help hold those smaller diamonds in place.

Answer: If you mean can you melt them all down to make one bigger ...
If you mean can you melt them all down to make one bigger diamond, the answer is no, that is physically impossible. You might be able to find a jeweler who will take all your little stones out of the current ring, and put them into a mounting that will look like a single stone, but honestly, that would cost you more then buying the exact same thing brand new. Totally not worth your money, or the jeweler's efforts....

You won't be able to sell it for what was paid. Forget that right now. You'll be lucky to get back half of what was paid for it - try craigslist, or another local website or newspaper - if you can provide an appraisal showing an honest value, you may be able to get 50-75% of that value. Sorry...

This may sound really pathetic....but we gotring from a pawn shop. We were just in there looking at a table saw that we saw in the window and I went to look at the jewelry and there was a really awesome vintage ring--2 carat in a platinum filigree setting. The stone was a European Cut which is from the 1800s. I get compliments on it all the time. I feel lucky to have it. Some people might find it strange but I love love lovering and we only paid $600.00 for it!

Answer: If you will think it looks nice on you - why not? It is ...
If you will think it looks nice on you - why not? It is special for you not for anyone else. Remember that black diamonds are not really worth anything commercially, but that shouldn't worry you unless either someone wants to overcharge you for a ring, or you had some idea of maybe being able to pawn it or use it as collateral if you ever had to. (edit): The same company lets you buy the gem seperately, and get it mounted. A mount like that one shown can be had for less than $200. It is a princess cut. These are very vulnerable to chipping, and it is common practice with insurers not to insure diamonds with this cut against chipping. Black diamonds have no 'clarity' rating, and you can only grade them by how porous they are, how good the surface is. They are currently fashionable, and are often sold for crazy prices. Here is a 2 ctw black diamond for sale 'loose', at $320. It is 'round cut' which is the most popular cut. You could see what people will offer you as a suitable mount for it, and design your own ring.

Inopinion, this is easy : ask your local jeweler what he can supply you. He can get that very easily for you. It is much more difficult to find top quality diamonds ! A remark on some the web-offers : many times it is very hard to find detailed info on the diamonds they sell, the pictures are not the actual product. Incredible bargains in diamond business simply don't exist at all. Buy from an expert, and buy in confidence, so go to see your store. And ask many questions ! And ... ALWAYS require a report from a famous third party gemological lab (such as GIA or IGI, ...). Good luck and enjoy the gem !
