There's no way to tell unless you get the ring valued. Aside from the 14c white gold, its impossible to value the diamonds as they could be virtually anything. Diamonds are judged on the 4 C's - cut, color, clarity, carat and unless the ring came with certification or authenticity cards, its impossible to know its features under the 4 C's. A carat would be 1.0, a half carat would be .50, a quarter carat would be .25, so this would be smaller than a quarter carat. It is not a particularly large stone, but emerald and marquis cuts are more expensive cuts than, say, a round cut.
A marquis cut is sort of a long oval in shape, with a point at the top and bottom. It is a more expensive cut because it usually takes a larger rough cut stone to be cut down into this shape.
An emerald cut is rectangular. It is often a more expensive cut because you usually need a better quality stone for this cut, since flaws will be more visible. The facets (cuts) are large, and flaws will stand out.
I highly recommend you do not buy any diamond ring from a picture. Photographs can easily hide visible flaws and poor coloring, that would be quite obvious if you were to see it in person. And photos can make a tiny stone look huge.
Any jewelry store should be able to give you some good information about buying a diamond ring, such as explaining "the four c's" (carat weight, color, cut and clarity), and help you to make the best purchase for your dollar. You could also look at examples of marquis and emerald cut stones in that size to get a better idea of what it would look like. |
