Jewelry Soup: How To Know Whether Diamond Is Fake Or Real?

Question: How do I know if the pawn-shop did not replace my real diamond ring with a fake diamond when returning itback?
I brought my diamond ring to the pawn-shop. The shop looked kind of crappy. I asked only for $500 (not to pay too high interests), even the ring costed over $1500. The salesperson tried to cheap around: 'Oh, we actually wanted to give you $450, but it is o'k...' Then they took my fingerprints and I signed the contract which contained info about my ring, address, ID. I did not feel secure at all stepping out of the shop. I'm going to pick up my ring in one week. What is the guarantee that they do not do the replacement of my diamond and the ring itself which is made of 14K white gold? What should I do if they will?

I don't know how to make those particular earrings look real, but I have found that when buying diamond simulants, it's best to get them in a gold (white or yellow) setting. This kind of makes it hard to tell if it is or isn't real.

Answer: Why do they look so obviously fake? Are they large and ...
Why do they look so obviously fake? Are they large and gaudy? Maybe you should wear smaller fake diamonds, as real ones are usually smaller and don't shout for attention. To make them really sparkle, soak them in a solution of water to which has been added a few drops of dish detergent and ammonia. Some fake gemstones can really fool people if they are of a discreetly smaller size.

Answer: Cubic zirconia is a fake that is used as a substitute for ...
Cubic zirconia is a fake that is used as a substitute for diamonds. Make sure it's in at least a sterling silver mounting or sterling with 14K overlay. Here's what it has going for it. It's almost as tough as a diamond It's got good refraction (sparkle) It comes in all of the same shapes that diamonds do And it comes in pretty colors as well. Just don't buy one that is to large, because then everyone will know it's fake. Ziamond is pricey, but what they sell is high fashion jewelry with 14K, 18K and platinum mountings--and theirs look like authentic diamond pieces--not like the cheaper knockoffs.

Question: Is there any way a diamond necklace can be fake?
First of all, here's a link: http://diamonds.ross-simons.com/rs/show_product.jsp;jsessionid=01085DF0661389E6AD009572EEC3CCB6?Prod_ID=223348 I found this online and I'm totally in love with it. I just hopes it looks as good in real life! Anyways, is there any way diamond necklaces can be fake, kind of like designer purses can be? I really want this necklace, I'm just paranoid because I would have to order it in the mail and it might not be exactly as it is in the picture. Advice and opinions are appreciated, thanks =]

as always, everything can be fake.. purses, clothes, jewelery ,etc everything can be fake I suggest you find out where this necklace is sold (like in a store) and then go talk to the real people who sell it.. you can also get advice from a jeweler. Hope this helps!

Answer: I definitely think that a .5 carat diamond necklace would ...
I definitely think that a .5 carat diamond necklace would cost more than $330... Its a very cute piece of jewelry, but it might be cubic zirconia, not diamond. Cubics are diamond look alikes to the untrained eye. Personally, I highly doubt that those are real diamonds. I have also never heard of that jewelry company. You should either A) look for a similar necklace from a reputable jeweler or B) if you can't afford diamonds, look for a similar necklace in cubic zirconia (meaning, the seller TELLS you its cubic zirconia before you buy it). It will still be cute and most people will never be able to tell the difference! Good luck!

Answer: Diamonds can be quite cheap depending on clarity, shape, and ...
Diamonds can be quite cheap depending on clarity, shape, and other factors. It looks very pretty in the picture but this could be a picture of one with perfect diamonds, whereas the one they send you might have not-so perfect diamonds. Plus I'm sure it's a lot smaller than what you think, diamonds can be cut very small and aren't too expensive. Look up the website on Better Business Bureau .com, if it's a legit company they will be on there.
